“Dale Layer (born 1958) is a former head men's basketball coach at Colorado State University. Layer was named the Rams' head basketball coach on April 11, 2000, replacing Ritchie McKay who left to take the vacant head coaching job at Oregon State. Layer led Colorado State to the NCAA Tournament in 2003 in just his third season at the helm, quicker than any coach in school history with the exception of Boyd Grant.
Layer was fired by Colorado State on March 12th, 2007. His career record at Colorado State was 103-106, but was only 31-71 in conference play. He was hired by Ritchie McKay on April 2nd, 2007 as an assistant coach at Liberty University. Following a 16 win season at Liberty, Layer was hired by new Marquette University coach Buzz Williams as an assistant on his staff. Ironically, Williams had previously been an assistant under Layer at Colorado State from 2000-2004.
If Layer replaces McKay, This will be no different than the past history between Layer and McKay. McKay Leaves or gets fired from a position and then Layer comes in and replaces him. I believe JB needs to look beyond Layer or Soucie and hire someone outside of the current coaching staff. Past history shows it didn’t work out well for Colorado State, what makes you think it will work here at Liberty
