There is an article about Dollar in the latest ESPN mag.
Cameron Dollar is Washington's one-man interrogation squad. For seven years as a Huskies assistant, He's used his homegrown good cop/bad cop act on players to get the answer to this question: how much do you want it?

Rousing sermons run in Cameron Dollar's family. Dad Donald was an Atlanta-area high school coach for 35 years, brother Chad is an assistant on Arkansas State's bench, and first cousin Creflo leads a multimillion-dollar evangelical ministry. Armed with his innate gift of goad, Dollar has emerged as the best of the college hardwood's hype men.

"He's a great motivator," says Washington alum and current Blazers star Brandon Roy. "He makes you believe you can achieve everything you really never believed you could do."

The path to Dollar's power of persuasion is a pretty straight line. "Watching my dad was a class in motivation," he says. "I'd see him inspire with a yell, a hug, a kiss, a look—whatever a player needed." Dollar also realized that the players thought his dad was a hard-jerk, and that stuck too. "I enjoy the respect more than the like," he says. So these days, the 33-year-old assistant, who won a title as UCLA's point guard in 1995, is adept at stark switches that take him from players' coach to taskmaster in a blink. One minute he's playing PS2 with his guys, the next he's hounding them from the sideline. Dollar sends encouraging postgame texts, but he also has been known to rant, as he did after a February loss to his alma mater. The topic: what it takes to be a champion.

He never loses the players' ears because he always gives a light at the end of the tunnel:

"I don't ride them in March. On our hardest days, they always go, 'Ooh, I can't wait for March.' " He's the first to say it's all about balance, his and theirs. It wears out everyone if he's on them all the time. In the end, how do you measure his success? Dollar has thought about that too.

"It's hard to say if it works numbers-wise," he says. "But impact can't be measured in numbers."

That being said.....HMO, let's not get carried away. This whole episode is a shining example of why WU is so many light years ahead of any other program in the league.

You've tasted success that's for sure...but you will be doing a HC hire next year as well that will set you guys back

I agree they'll be looking for a head coach, but they're not going to be in trouble. They have a ton of athletes down there. Get a coach in there that can actually coach and they'll be alright.

Dale Layer is the most obvious choice, a good coach, and better man. Bart Lundy would build your program faster and is well thought of by your administration. Layer was successful at Queens and very successful after Lundy was hired as his assistant. I don't know if Layer could be lured away from Marquette as that's a high profile job or if Lundy would want the job. Marquette is bringing in 8 new players next year and things will not be as easy there as they were this year so Layer may well make a move. I'm sure that Lundy would like to get even with HP and he was getting a lot of highly rated recruits interested in his program. Jay Canty just decommitted from HP after Lundy was let go and he may well be the no.1 rated player in the state of NC next year. All of you saw what Barbour( Va guy) could do and he wasn't the best player on the HP team. That claim went to another Virginian who you didn't see because he was a RS freshman. Other than Marshall, Lundy had the best record in the Big South over the last 6 years. Bottom line here is that if I could have either coach I would go for it and feel good about it.

If we hired Lundy, this place would collapse before you could say "Seth Curry to Duke" three times.

"Being a head coach is still definitely of interest, but we've done a good job of building (Washington) up," said Dollar. "We have the support of the president, athletic director and the community. You only want to leave a situation like this for a situation that has the same type of support. Those are hard to find. Unless one of those situations comes around, and it'd have to be really special, I'd be more than perfectly happy staying here."

His bio from UW's athletic page:

Cameron Dollar is in his seventh season as an assistant coach at Washington in 2008--09. He was hired onto Lorenzo Romar's staff on April 8, 2002.

He played a major role in the spectacular 2005 and 2006 seasons that were among the finest in UW history. Dollar's contributions come both on the court, where he provides a wealth of coaching knowledge and experience, and on the recruiting trail. He helped recruit back-to-back classes that were ranked among the best in the nation.

In 2006, Dollar helped guide Washington to a 26-7 record. The Huskies made back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances for the first time ever. He was pivotal in the Huskies' run to their first Pac-10 Tournament championship in 2005 and first ever No. 1 seed into the NCAA Tournament. UW finished with a 29-6 record, tying the school record for wins in a season.

In 2004, the Huskies advanced to the championship game of the Pac-10 Tournament and competed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999. UW swept all three meetings with highly ranked Arizona and capped the regular season with a win over No. 1 and undefeated Stanford.

Prior to his arrival at UW, Dollar served three years as an assistant coach on Romar's Saint Louis University staff. He helped the Billikens to a three-year record of 51-44 (.537), including a 2000 Conference USA Tournament championship that secured the league's automatic NCAA berth.

Dollar began his coaching career as an assistant on the staff of head coach Pat Douglass at UC Irvine in 1997.

He became the nation's youngest head coach in 1998 when, at age 22, he took the reins of the Southern California College program in Costa Mesa, Calif. The Vanguards, who returned just six players from the previous season, posted an 11-22 record in Dollar's only season, but recorded wins over NAIA Top 25 teams Westmont and Azusa Pacific.

After a three-month stay as a part-time assistant at the University of Georgia in 1999, Dollar left to join the Saint Louis coaching staff on a full-time basis.

As a player, Dollar lettered four seasons at UCLA before graduating in 1997. He now returns to Seattle, the site of the Bruins' 1995 NCAA Championship victory. UCLA defeated Arkansas 89-78 at the Kingdome.

Dollar played against the Huskies eight times between 1994-97 and UCLA won all eight games. His most memorable moment against Washington was a half-court shot from the left sideline at the overtime buzzer that lifted the Bruins to a 91-88 victory on Mar. 7, 1996 at Pauley Pavilion. That was Dollar's only basket.

A four-year letterman at UCLA from 1994-97, Dollar achieved national recognition in 1995 as a pivotal player in UCLA's NCAA championship season when he took over for injured starter Tyus Edney in the title game. In Dollar's final three collegiate seasons, the Bruins won the NCAA title and reached the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Dollar averaged 5.0 points and 3.7 assists per game during his four-year career.

He was recruited to UCLA by then-Bruins assistant Lorenzo Romar and was reunited with his coach in 2001 when Romar added Dollar to his staff at Saint Louis University.

Dollar is a native of Atlanta, where his father, Don, was the long-time coach at Clarkston High School and is now coaching at Morehouse College.

Cameron and his wife, Maureen, live in Seattle. They have a son, Jalen, born on April 26, 2005 and a daughter, Giselle, who was born Feb. 12, 2007.

“We’re happy to be adding a coach like Russ to our staff with his wealth of experience,” said Arizona head coach Lute Olson. “He is an outstanding coach, a hard worker and a wonderful family man. I’m sure Russ and his family will fit into the Tucson community very nicely.”

Pennell is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and is extremely active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He and his wife, Julie, were married in 1986 and have two daughters, Morgan Rachel and Emily Katherine.

You know, after a few conversations today and a night to calm down, I actually think this might be a good thing. I thing the Admin. and JB will get us an even better coach to lead us forward. If we do lose some recruits, the new guy may bring some with him to fill the holes. As long as this can happen quickly, I think we'll be to 2 or 3 in the conference again next year.

So how did Pennell get here? A year ago, he was a happy former college assistant who ran Arizona Premier, the basketball training facility he founded after he left the college game in 2004 following 14 years as an assistant at Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Arizona State. He coached a travel-ball team. He provided color commentary for radio broadcasts of Arizona State basketball games. He sang in the church choir.

Nothing about him being a Sunday School teacher, which will only help him

More on Dollar:
The former UCLA guard has come up against his alma mater on the recruiting trail and has won his fair share of battles in the Pac-10. One of Rivals.com's top 25 recruiters in 2006, he helped the Huskies land the nation's No. 7 class, led by five-star center Spencer Hawes. Dollar has backed up last year's work with another stellar group in '07, a four-man class ranked 20th by Rivals.com. His high-water mark came with the No. 3-ranked class in 2005. Dollar has spent the past eight seasons with Huskies head man Lorenzo Romar, but he's clearly ready to step out on his own.

Being new-ish here and also being lazy and not wanting to research the old posts, why did Mr. Layer leave in the first place?
