Wow... the most logical thing BJ has ever said right there!

Im not trying to take up for anybody. Im just sick and tired of having so many people going into "Apocalypse mode". Am I upset about this? You better bet your kidney I am! I respected Coach McKay very much. From the times Ive met him he has been nothing but a great guy. I thought for sure he'd stick around for a while and do great things with the basketball program. When I saw the news after I got back from bowling class. I was like, "say it ain't so Coach McKay!"

Now with that said, I am not questioning the man's faith over this. Call me naive or call me Polyanna but Im not. The reason I mentioned CMII and ITB (and almost mentioned TBGBG) was the fact that they had been down on Coach McKay and Mr Barber almost from day one. To TBGBG's credit, he has been willing to give credit where it is due (and I respect him for that) but I figure that when this news became official that they would be the first ones doing a celebratory dance. So I figured, well if JB and RM are such bad people, then hey, why don't they try to do their jobs. They seem to be such experts on what is the right and wrong thing to do with running a multi-million dollar athletic program.

I've been posting in the Cincinnati Bengal Message board forums.I have actually been sharing the Gospel with those guys/gals who are fellow Bengal fans. But i was banned because they don't like Christians on that board very much.

Maybe Barber can meet Russ Pennell there. epsn says Pennell plans to leave Thursday for the Final Four, where there will likely be many conversations with potential suitors.

Don't know if it will affect yall at all, but if you are going for local ACC assistant coaches then it should be noted that the App State job is still open. Davidson's top assistant just took the Elon job.

The first name that comes to mind for me is one of Ritchie's friends, Willis Wilson. The longtime Rice coach is a outspoken Christian who has demonstrated loyalty to a smaller program despite many opportunities to go to higher profile gigs.

Let me point out that our opening is much more attractive today than it was when Ritchie was hired based on our your roster that has already proven that it can win.
A good potential match which would have the substantial side benefit of pretty much guaranteeing us the Sanders brothers will remain at/committed to Liberty.

Doug Moe. Paul Westhead. Mike Shanahan (the mastermind should always get consideration). John Jones. Just to name a few prospects.

i know i dont post ever, but i read almost daily.... however... i think....

it would be great to see a young coach come in.... i actually like to the Rell Porter statement...
because this gives a great guy with a ton of bball knowledge a great opportunity....
i think it helps with recruiting tremendously being able to relate with the players....

true... it might not be Rell, and so be it, but i think going young would be a good thing!
i dont care if u agree or not....

Don't be afraid of somebody from a smaller school. Just be sure they preach defense.

Paul Westhead was just hired to coach the Oregon women's team. Could not believe it when I read it.

on another note....

LU always wants to go for a big name....
there is really no sense in that because 1 of 2 things happens....
1- LU becomes a crutch needed to revive and/or boost ones coaching career
2- LU takes on a fading and/or struggling BIG NAME coach that still wants to coach

so unless we want to talk about what coach will be next... every year or two.... then we need to be realistic.... BIG SOUTH.... not ACC.... LIBERTY.... not CAROLINA....
lets not worry and throw out the big names every time... but actually put our faith in a guy that we can trust to build our program for a great amount of time

Ralph Sampson

That way once he gets canned and all of the players leave, we can draw on the experience that is about to happen to this program right now.

It's all about foresight!

This is were I agree and disagree. I think we need a big name to come in and fix this mess up in a few years. We don't need him to come in and spend 10+ years, just give us 3-4 years. Get a guy that has some experience, had some success, but had a bad run that got him fired. Give him a chance to build this thing up, and be ready for his departure if he is successful. McKay has left this puppy pretty empty, especially if we lose the commitments we have for next season, but he gave us GREAT national exposure. Bring someone in that can continue the excitement.

Ideally, I would love to see a guy come in and stay for 10-20 years. Realistically, it would take a no-name guy 3-5 years just to rebuild the program IMO. We need a guy that can come in and already have some strong recruiting areas to draw from. That could easily refill the system in 2 recruiting years, and be competitive after just one year.

Fully agree...that could be a quick hire that will happen quick enough to keep a lot of our staff and in return our recruits...if we wait then it will set us back about 3 years

he'd take it too...I'm on the Dale Layer train

What about Pete Gillen(Sp?)? I know he was on the list before we hired McKay.
