Anyone attend the VCU Tourney? If so, who did the Flames play and how did they do? Hopefully I will see some of you at Graduation in May !

We started out against William and Mary in the first match. Lost the first set 25-14. The bus got lost getting to the site and the girls had no warm up time before hitting the floor. We fell behind early in the second set by about 7 points and then came back to take the lead, but ended up losing 26-24. Next up was Radford. We clocked them at 25-15 in the first set, but they won the second set at 25-23. Radford is much improved over last season. Because we were 1-3 we ended up in the losers grouping. We won the rest of the sets we played in the afternoon, but the competition was really weak.

None of the girls played spectacularly, although there were flashes of brilliance at times. Nicki is having trouble with her timing in her move to the outside. Karyl struggled early as did BP. Claire showed much improvement over last year. Cooper did a nice job at libero when she came in for Kelly, and Becca did a great job serving.

Coach tried an interesting lineup for a few sets. Had Boggs setting and Kallie and Nicki playing outside.

Overall, it was a disappointing peformance, but I remember last spring being a difficult time, too.

One interesting tidbit: It was love at first sight for Sports Critic with #23 for UNC-W.

So this thread won't be deemed worthless without pictures...

Vadim, thanks for the tourny update. It is the Flames first outing and it would not be the first time they had rough starts like this. They will work out the kinks in no time and be back in the groove.

Just so everyone will know...the other teams in the event had more time in practice before the tourney because we had to start later since we were in the NCAA tourney. NCAA rules limit your spring because of your extra play time in the fall.

btw the picture above does not do her justice. Sports Critic obviously has great taste.

Choper, we will probably see you at graduation.
