How do you feel about Curry's future?

I wish him the best and will be pulling for him wherever he goes

I don't care. He's just another player now.

I take offense to this since I am over 23 and an alumnus. It is LU first and foremost. He stabbed us and coach in the back, and as SJ said earlier I go to Liberty University not Seth Curry University. I was not a Seth Curry fan, I was a Liberty fan. I could care less how he does now, but I'm not going to wish him to fail (well at least not publicly 8) ).

I am not necessarily an alum, but Ive been around long enough to remember back to my first years at LU and seen good times and bad times and when the students became largely ambivalent about basketball (especially when we hit the proverbial basement about 4 seasons ago). Seth Curry brought something that really you hadnt seen at Liberty...significant buzz...and we're talking outside of Lynchburg. Am I sad that he is leavign? Yeah...as is most everybody else on this board (with the few exceptions and we KNOW who they are). Am I bitter about it? No...he made a decision. Its not like it affects me directly so why should I be bitter about it. I wish him good luck wherever God's path for his life takes him (Whether its Duke, NC State, Wake, or a village just past Timbuktu).

+1
Because with Duke, he's choosing a school, not just a conference. Meaning, Wake would be closest to what LU is in the conference, so I wouldn't fault him as much for going there.

I agree 100%. I am shocked at the amount of hate being thrown and a 19 year old kid.

Would you feel the same way if he was leaving for the NBA draft? He is doing what he feels necessary for HIS future, nor ours.

And yes....I am over 23.

He's 18. Haha.

Like I said, I don't hate the kid. I have no problem with the kid. I hate the action and what he did. As Coach Rocco said at Flames Club yesterday - it's impossible to not take this personal.

I wonder if it were a top academic student as opposed to basketball player who wanted to transfer to a Duke or a Wake or a UVA...in order to better himself academically in preparation for a chosen profession...if there would be a spewing of such venom???

Bad analogy. Top academic students don't publicly represent the university on a regional and national stage. Also, if they were such academicians, they would likely have enrolled at the chosen institution in the first place.

Good question, Fumble. But I can honestly say that we've never had an Honors student tell me that our academics weren't challenging enough and the student wanted to go elsewhere. In fact, our alumni do go to Ivy League schools for grad school. I talked to one yesterday who is graduating this May and has just been accepted into a Ph.D. program at Cornell.

What venom? There's been a few kids here who seem to be taking it personally but most people can see this for what it is: A low-character move. And yes he's an 18 year old kid but I've got to imagine he's heavily leaning on his family for decisions like this.

I think it is a very fine analogy...as many do come here with great intelligence b/c of WHAT Liberty is all about. I am sure Cider Jim can vouch for that.

I just pray that the venom towards Seth on this board STAYS on the board (I understand we all need to vent sometimes) and he is not publicly harassed on campus or around town.

seriously though Fumble what venom? I mean everyone from all the other schools were talking about how much class we're having with this situation.

He's just another player now...He did bring us national attention this year which I thank him for. It is up to us to use that recognition to continue to recruit good players.

No worse than what some kid did with your "we are all witnesses" pic.

OK..maybe "venom" is too harsh (I could not think of an appropriate word)...but calling him "baby Judas???" Come one people.

Our founder was known for saying love the sinner, hate the sin.

I'm in no ways saying this a sin so please don't take it as that. I'm saying I can love Seth but hate what he did to us.

Fumble, LU draws students who are just as gifted academically as Seth is gifted athletically. We have LU alumni who came here with perfect scores on their SATs and ACTs, and we have 34 National Merit Finalists (top half of the top 1% on PSATs) here on full rides academically.

So...how would you feel if one of your Honors students transferred out to a higher ranked institution?

I'm certainly not saying that intelligent people don't enroll at LU. I'm saying that people who enroll at LU generally know what they're getting into, particularly academically. Top academics don't need LU to boost their profile while Seth clearly did.
