If so, they're stupid. That school can benefit from a tournament like this more than most.

2 decent CAA teams (Drexel and Hosftra) were also not in the fields. Hosftra beat us twice in the regular season, but it appears that $$ rules the day.

Nobody...and I mean nobody but the teams that are in those tournaments care about those tournaments. They are money losers for most and don't really give any additional exposure to the teams that are in them.

Its not about the exposure, its about getting the extra practice times in.

So you don't think there's any benefit to playing in them? Teams don't play in them because people care or to make money.

how much is it to host one of these games? 20k or so? That would make a difference to a lot of teams

People play in these meaningless tourneys to grasp at extending their seasons. Money loss, no real exposure, risk of injury for an extra couple of games of "experience"? Not worth it IMO, but best of luck to the Flames.

The appeal for us is the extra practice time...with a young team and some lingering questions, we need all the time we can get.

This question was answered in the basketball board. VMI basically decided 'NIT or nothing'. They're in the middle of spring break so no one would be in town to see the game if they hosted a CBI game, and some of the players said they just wanted to get back and work on getting the degree. Plus these tournaments are probably going to be money losers.

Calling BS on this entire thing. Had nothing to do with schoolwork or money.

From the New Jersey fish wrap: "Seton Hall chose not to participate in the College Basketball Invitational, an event that requires schools to post a $60,000 entry fee."

So you're looking at 60k to start with, and that doesn't include how much $$$ (if any) to pay to host. That's not chump change.

That's the CBI. We're not in the CBI.

When did VMI become a NIT or bust team?

My mistake for confusing the CBI with the CIT. IMO, they're both CRP.

Bell, a Woodside High product, and the Holmes twins chose to catch up on academics and enjoy spring break this week, rather than chase after the recent arrivals on the postseason basketball scene: the two-year-old College Basketball Invitational and the new CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

"We honored their wishes," Baucom said. "Certainly, as a coach, I would have gone either direction. We would have prepared and played, but it's like one of my assistants said (Monday): 'My dream in the postseason wasn't to get a home game against Rider.' I said, 'I agree.' "
