Thanks to G-Webb1994 for posting this on AGS:
Jackson (MS) Clarion Ledger wrote:Ole Miss close to setting 12th football game

Ole Miss is close to scheduling its 12th game of the 2009 football season with Gardner-Webb, according to UM scheduling director John Hartwell.

Gardner-Webb is a Football Championship Subdivision (Division I-AA) team that plays in the Big South Conference. The Runnin’ Bulldogs played Mississippi State in 2007, losing 31-15 in Starkville.

If Gardner-Webb is added, Ole Miss would have two FCS schools on the schedule, with the other being Southeastern Louisiana. According to NCAA rules, only one win for a Football Bowl Subdivision team (I-A) against an FCS team can count toward a team’s six wins needed for bowl eligibility.

It should be noted that G-W already has games scheduled at NC State and MAC Champion Buffalo before pursuing this deal. It would likely lead to WCU looking for a date.

Really? I didn't realize the Ole Miss game was public knowledge. They did play well at Mississppi State last year.

They played at MSU two years ago. Last year was Georgia Tech -- where they also played well.

I love the $$$ it would mean to the athletic department coffers, but I don't want to pull a Furman on WCU by backing out, like TT did to us to play Kansas State.

is your Athletic Department really going to see that money or just football...let's be honest

Prob not a bad topic for a new thread but SHOULD a specific team like football or basketball give the money they earned to play in a game to the Athletic Department or should it go straight to their budget....food for thought I say food for thought...a lot of schools have mixed feelings on that

What programs have the extra loot from these "money games" go to the AD?

Nearly every FCS school primarily from their basketball programs where costs are lower but the guarantees are easy to find.

AD in HMO's statement means Athletic Department as opposed to it sometimes meaning Athletic Director. I kinda got the sense from TheLostLetter that he took AD to mean Director in HMO's post.

According to multiple sources, the Ole Miss game fell through and we have another D-2 coming in for a home game along with Mars Hill in the opener.  Not exactly celebrating, but am happy we kept our word and didn't pull a 'Furman' on Western Carolina.

It's official.....here is the G-W schedule:

9/5 MARS HILL 6:00 pm
9/12 at Western Carolina 7:00 pm
9/19 at NC State 6:00 pm
9/26 bye
10/3 at VMI* 1:00 pm
10/10 at Buffalo TBD
10/17 CHARLESTON SOUTHERN* 6:00 pm
10/24 SOUTHERN VIRGINIA 6:00 pm
10/31 STONY BROOK* (HC) 1:30 pm
11/7 at Coastal Carolina* 7:00 pm
11/14 LIBERTY* 1:30 pm
11/21 at Presbyterian* 1:30 pm

An NAIA cupcake to me takes the luster off of having Buffalo and NCSU on the schedule. Another mediocre 6-5 or 5-6 season for my Dawgs yet again, and Patton just signed a 3-year extension not too long ago. Seems like the entire G-W athletic department is content with mediocrity in all sports.:(

Southern Virginia does indeed have a VERY low NAIA team. Those Mormons haven't exactly dominated the gridiron but they are fielding a team.
