College notes: Madison graduate selected football captain at Liberty University

By CURT CONRAD
News Journal

Madison graduate Mike Godsil was selected as one of six captains for the Liberty University football team.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound junior center broke his right leg in Liberty's season finale against Gardner-Webb last fall, but has worked back into peak condition. He broke his own program record by benching 530 pounds and completed a whopping 47 reps at 225 pounds.

Godsil had a screw removed from his right leg in early March. He was back in action by the time spring practice began in late March.
Fellow Madison graduate and Liberty teammate Bryan Mosier is battling for the starting job at right guard.

Mike gets to show his stuff at the pro day that comes up Tues, March 3rd at Liberty. It will be the first time he can post official NFL numbers as he was in a leg cast at this time last year during the pro day testing. We have been monitoring the numbers posted by the centers invited to the NFL combine and are looking forward to his opportunity to demonstrate what he can do. We think he will be competitive compared to the numbers posted by centers in Indy. God is soveriegn and good in all things. So we'll see. Mike and many others have been working hard to prepare for this opportunity. Keep all the guys in your prayers.

Madison product has NFL hopes. The 2005 Madison graduate and son of ex-Rams coach Matt Godsil spent the past four years entrenched as the center for Division I-AA Liberty University, starting all 45 games of his collegiate career. Nice article madmat. We're certainly pulling for Mike.

Now you need to get on the stick and "coach up" another big guy or 2 for us! It won't seem the same if we don't have a Madison High guy on the OL after Bryan graduates next year.
