This is for the Sox fans on the board to discuss the season. Personally, I think we're in big trouble. With Varitek and Nixon hurt, it's gonna be a long road. The bullpen exluding Papelbon is horrible. Mirabelli can't hit the ball. Good thing the offense is coming through right now or we'd be 5 games back of the Yankees already. Two come from behind 9th inning wins in 3 games is a little too much to expect. A deal really should have been made before the deadline. At least Wily Mo is crushing the ball right now. Feel free to post about each days's game and any new info on the Sox.

I own a 2004 World Series Champions Hat that I actually bought in New York City. That was the best feeling I ever had. I agree though. Based on how they are playing they need to seriously pick it up a notch. I think the biggest loss is going to be Varitek. He is a clutch hitter and excellent catcher, not to mention the emotional support he provides. I am not a big fan of Mirabelli but realize he is a crucial part of the team in regards to Wakefield. Willie Mo Pena has been doing alright covering for Trot but that too is a huge loss. The good news is the Sox play the most home games from here on out and have no road trips longer than 2 series. This one could get even unglier than the past few years.

I own both the Black and Navy Blue hats from the World Series.... Actually wearing the Black one now... I agree about Doug he is very vital for Wakefield... but he can't hit to save his life!!!! Willie Mo has the potental to be a great power hitter, now that he is healthy he should be able to give us the lift and fill in the gap for Trot....I just hope we can get Big Keg Wells and Clement healthy... also it will be nice to get Foulke back to give some more depth to the bullpen....Lester has come on nicely and I hope that Kyle Synder will be able to give us a lift as well... it's August and well what else would you expect to see in the AL East but a dogfight for the top spot!!!! I am on pins and needles every night with this team, but that's what makes it so much fun

The Sox signed Javy Lopez today to fill the hole at catcher until V-Tek comes back. Sure, he's not the old Javy, but he's still MUCH better than Mirabelli back there. Looks like we should have kept Bard since he's hitting like .365 for the Padres.

I've been to Fenway five times and went to 3 spring training games this year. Not a big deal, but I'm just saying. I've been a Sox fan since I was four years old. I had posters of Roger Clemens on my wall and every Starting Lineup figurine of him when I was a kid. It wasn't easy being a Sox fan growing up in the 1980s and 1990s in North Carolina where everyone is a Braves fan. So, no, I'm not a bandwagon fan.

Tough lost last night once again a game going down to the 9th.... How in the world does Westbrook give up 15 hits and still pitch 8 innings and we lose!!!!!!! Lopez will work for now Doug can't hit to save his life... Tek's surgery went well and he is starting rehab right away according to the doctors... We need him!!!!

I still don't quite understand sending Mirabelli up with 2 outs in the 9th. Was there really nobody better than a guy hitting .185 to go up with the game on the line? Come on Tito!!!

And what about having Arroyo right now, I know we traded him to get Pena, but having that extra arm in there right now would be nice...

It's hard to doubt Theo since his track record is quite impressive. Sure, Arroyo would have been nice, but Pena will be good long-term if he can learn a little plate discipline. The Clemens trade basically came down to Houston not wanting to move him. It would have been a good move, but it wasn't the Red Sox fault it didn't come to fruition. I do think that the Sox are in a bit of trouble from here on in. When you aren't getting wins from your starters and the bullpen is terrible (besides Papelbon), you aren't gonna win. They have to pick things up down the stretch.

Yeah I agree about Theo... very smart man...Had you asked me back in June how I felt about trading Bronson, I would have been very upset, but now teams are facing him for a 2nd time and he is not doing as well and if we didn't have Pena right now, we would be in a major crunch with Trot going down, so I am fine with the trade now...

I agree that under Theo's watch we have been in good shape, and some of the tough decisions he's had to make that were perceived as unpopular at the time have proven good decisions. I'm good with where they are at personnel wise, except for some of the holes in the pitching staff. It is interesting that they didn't try to shore up some patchwork pitching before the trade deadline...but as always it will come down to the final week to see if the BoSox lock up first place or have to settle for the wildcard...hopefully they will win 2/3's of the remaining games so as not to put the wildcard in jeopardy should they not lock up first in division...by the way, Coco Crisp has to go down as one of the best names in Red Sox history.

You guys need to stick to talking about your overpaid bunch of whiners in Beantown. The Astros didn't refuse to trade Rocket. If he really wanted to pitch for the Bosox he would be in Fenway right now. He didn't want to and that was that. But just so you know, the Red Sox did make a run at Roy Oswalt at the trading deadline. They just weren't ready to go far enough to land him.
