LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The Arkansas House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a bill allowing concealed handguns in churches, despite hearing arguments that lawmakers should put their faith in God, not guns.

The bill, which passed on a 57-42 vote and now heads to the Senate, removes churches and other houses of worship from the list of places where concealed handguns are banned. Currently, the only private entities where concealed weapons are banned are churches and bars.

The bill's sponsor, Republican Rep. Beverly Pyle, said she introduced the measure after a series of church shootings across the country. She said it would be up to each individual church whether to allow the concealed guns.

"It is time we changed our concealed-handgun law to allow law-abiding citizens of the state of Arkansas the right to defend themselves and others should a situation happen in one of our churches," she said.

Pyle said at least 20 states have similar laws allowing churches to decide whether to permit concealed guns.

I just got my CCP a month or so ago. I carried to church a few weeks ago, mostly to see how comfortable my holster is when sitting for a period of time.

Holster is called Thunderwear, carry right up front inside the pants. Also eliminates the need for any male enhancement pills. :D

I thought it was illegal to carry onto church property pretty much everywhere. Although I don't know state to state, it's more of a generalization. Is that legal in NC?

as far as I know it's not "illegal" to carry anywhere that isnt state property...even banks...now it's up to the land owner (i.e. banks) to say that you cannot but the only thing they can do is get you taken off the property

to my knowlege, at least up here, only schools are off limits. Even daycares- according to their state licensure policy- must prohibit firearms on the grounds.

Churches- as far as I know- are ok.

Unless you're "five-oh". Then its all good.

Oh- and FLAMESHAW- I'd be careful there. Don't wanna take one in the junk. You can get a nice Gould & Goodrich or Safariland for less than 75 bucks that rides nice and high. I wear mine everytime I leave the house with no problems.

In NC, you can carry most places with the exception of government buildings, places that charge admission, places that have signage that prohibit carrying, and places that serve alcohol.

I particularly don't understand the alcohol deal. Not far from where I live that are lots of bars that if you don't come in with a gun, they give you one at the door.

Doesnt it matter if your consuming alcohol and not just in a place that serves it?

The problem there is with the shooting of an innocent person. If LUconn & I are carrying, but I don't know him from Adam.... someone yells gun....I see him draw his weapon.......I fire off a round & drop LUconn (who was actually trying to stop the bad guy).....I go to FPMITAP. :nonono

well it's still legal to take a gun even without a permit as long as it's visible at all times and sitting on the table where all can see it...in VA that is

Concealed carry in church --> preachers who are VERY careful not to offend their congregations.

Unless they carry, too. Then I pity the fool who falls asleep during the sermon.

My understanding is as long as alcohol is served, no go with concealed.

Makarov,

I am actually looking at securing a Makarov for concealed carry. I will be at the Gun Show tomorrow with that either #1 or #2 on the want list.

I understand the Bulgarians are the best. Do you have any pearls of wisdom you would like to pass on? I would appreciate it so much, especially if you can see your way to do it before tomorrow morning.

Thanks. :D

Right but I think as long as it's visible at all times it's ok...they call it the wild wild west law

Thanks my friend. I actually had someone at a store this morning say he had a Makorov, but it was Polish and I called him on it. He knew it, but think he was just talking about the ammo.

Actually the CZ82 was #2 on my list based on price, condition, etc. Thanks for the input.

Maybe we should have a firearms space here on the forum? :D

Makarov,

Well, I got to the gun show and couldn't make up my mind between the Makarov and CZ82, so I did what any sensible person would do and bought them both.

Ended up with a Bulgarian with the red star grips and a nice looking CZ. Looking forward to getting to the range. Need some ammo though, couldn't find any at the show, but then didn't look very hard, because the crowd was unbelievable. Any suggestions on brand and where to buy?

Be sure to use one in each hand. I play a lot of video games and often time wielding dual pistols is the key.

makarov97 wrote:Congrats on the purchases! I am sure that you will like them.

Here is a good site to use. It links you to current prices at various outlets for different calibers of ammunition.

http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php

I haven't bought ammo in a while. I buy in bulk and stock rounds away in ammo cans. With prices the way that they are right now, I am glad that I took up this practice a long time ago.

Right now, it is hard to find a good deal on any ammunition. It looks like the Brown Bear ammunition is going to be your cheapest. It's not exactly "cheap" at 19.6 cents a round. For target ammo, you are going to want to get the cheapest stuff that you can find.

For carry ammo (that you hopefully will never have to shoot) just pick up a box or two of the Hornady XTP.

I buy a lot of ammo from Cheaperthandirt. I've never had a problem with their service.
Thanks for your help. I was afraid of the real cheap stuff, I guess it cycles all right in these guns?
