“We are very excited about Tommy Beecher and his plans to attend Liberty University in the fall of 2009,” commented Rocco. “Tommy signed a scholarship letter and will need to complete a waiver with the NCAA before gaining eligibility.”

[quote="coastalfan1"]Im sorry for yall, tommy beecher flat out refused to play near the end of last season due to fear of being hit. That came from him and spurriers mouth. On top of that he threw 4 picks and had a concussion in the opening game last year, 4 picks in the spring game as well. Why do you think he isnt in columbia right now? he sucks.

Can you provide any proof of those statements? I find it hard to believe that a QB in the SEC makes a statement that he is afraid of being hit. Spurrier's motives are clear, he's clearing out as many scholarships as he can to make room for upcoming talent. After Tommy got hurt, he started a true freshman.

Yep posted that as i was looking at the article. Computer was slow so I couldnt delete it.

Either way,

If Beecher couldnt come in and compete for the job Rocco would have found a better use of the scholly. Sure Seminary ma be why he came here, but if he cant play QB, then we wouldnt have brought him here.

Fixed that.
beecher himself said it as well and spurrier is your god
I see where you say that Beecher said that but I don't see anything quoting Beecher himself as actually saying that.

“Stephen was sick two or three days. Stephen doesn’t know what’s going on completely, yet,” Spurrier said. “It was either (Smelley) or Tommy Beecher, and Tommy doesn’t want to play. So we were going to go with him the whole game unless he got knocked out.”

The State paper is quoting Spurrier. Spurrier is clearly not the same person as Beecher. Secondly, Spurrier is not quoting Beecher in that statement but seems to be, as his wont, running his mouth about his players. Again, not a statement from Beecher.

This might be worship of the almighty Visored One, but it is not proof.

alright lol he just pulled it out of his jerk and its all lies. im not going to go and pay to get you a archieved copy of his interviews. believe what you want to believe. start him and enjoy not getting to the playoffs again
Spurrier said Beecher did not want to play, which came across as a damning indictment of the player’s character. Several times earlier in the season, Spurrier had said privately that Beecher lost his desire to play. Each time, Spurrier asked that his comments be kept private so as to save Beecher any embarrassment.

“I said he didn’t want to play,” Spurrier said this past week. “Is that criticism or is that the truth? Why is that criticism? They asked me a question, why didn’t you play him? I said, well, because he doesn’t want to play.”

You're the one who started this, CF. If you don't care to finish, well, that's pretty much been the state of Coastal athletics for some time now.

For the record, Spurrier is renowned for pulling statements out of his jerk (see: Lane Kiffin cheating, "Free Shoes University", Peyton Manning in the Citrus Bowl, Ohio State, the feud with Phil Fulmer, etc.,).

But the thought of playing his final season away from the limelight while going to seminary appealed to Beecher, his mother said. He also formed a bond with Flames quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter, the former Clemson quarterback.

I hope this is a good move for this guy and hopefully a good move for LU. Was he previously at Coastal or supposed to go to Coastal or something? why is CoastalFan so vocal and bitter? what's up with that??

Whether Tommy starts or is a backup, whether Brennan or Landis start, I personally think this officially moves Brown to WR/wildcat for at least the 09-10 season

They got smoked by VMI and Charleston Southern. Bitter is all that Coastal fans have left.

Just a gut feeling based on Roccos pro style offense. It's just an opinion. Makes sense though. We could use Browns talent at Wr and in the return game and still have a stocked cubbard at qb

Wouldn't a lot depend on the offensive coordinator we hire?

I think people on here think because we get a transfer that definitely means he's starting and blah blah blah. That's not the case at all. The talent we have on this team right now is absolutely through the roof. It would be hard for a lot of people to transfer here and play definitely.

do yall think your getting to me about our crappy football program? I know bennett sucks and so does the whole staff, im with you on that

im bitter because he took up a whole scholarship for someone that really wanted to play knowing he wouldnt go out there and play himself :x

I think yall would have been ticked at your star running back last year if he would have refused to play for fear of being hit

4 years of college

30/51 320 yds, 5 ints, 2 td

I agree...he is a great player at QB and can also play WR really well...he's got a great future.

Regardless of what happens or doesn't happen. I am fine with it as long as Rocco is. Hard to argue with him based on success so far. :D
