What does everybody use here? I imagine some of you small business guys have accountants and such. I used TurboTax a couple of years ago and then switched to TaxCut last year. I liked them both but I switched because the latter was a little cheaper and had H&R Block support. This year I'm using TaxAct. It's totally just online which is the downside, but the Fed is free and the State return is something like $15. I'm not finished with it yet but so far it is way more thorough than the other programs I've used. Plus it's got free eFiling. The other 2 programs were going to be charging me for it so I'd mail it in instead (I try to pay as little money to get my money back from the government).

we pay a guy.

have used him for a decade or so and he does a great job.

I used to do them myself but when you get to a certain point, it's better to have a CPA make sure you're taking all the deductions you can, IMHO.

Kids
Mortgage(s)
Home equity loans
multiple income sources
business related expenses: travel, equipment, other unreimbursed out of pocket stuff
education expenses
tax deductable contributions/expenses/donations (if you don't , you should)
the cost of him preparing last years' taxes

a bunch of other things I always forget until he reminds me.

I've used TurboTax ever since I realized that the guy at H&R Block was using nothing more than the TaxCut program and that I knew better than he did what deductions I should be looking for.

Also, LUConn, check the fine print on Block's support. It applies only under specific circumstances and, for me, it wasn't worth the extra payout. It was like gambling that I would get audited.

I file Federal online via TurboTax and State online through the Virginia taxation website. Both are free.

I've done mine at hrblock.com for a few years now.

It goes against everything I believe in, but it's worked so well that I'll probably keep it up.

I'm with Medic. I've used the same lady for over ten years now. Keeps her in gambling money. She does a great job and I have no worries.
