Terrell is a 5a public school near Dallas known for a former QB named Jamie Foxx and a singer who won the first Idol.

Covenant's being a little tough on their girls but ultimately this is proving to be a great conversation starter and testimony to their values.

It seems like a girl's bball team does something like this once a year. It's such a weird sport. Where else does the #1 ranked team beat the #2 ranked team by 30 points?

My team once beat a girls varsity team 47 to 1. They laughed at my players when we walked into the gym, my five starters were a senior pg, barely 5 feet tall, one junior 5'7" my center, and three sophs, two who had never played organized basketball before and the other soph was a deaf athlete. My 6th and 7th players off the bench was two 7th graders, first year playing. And behind them the rest of the junior high team. I got my players in the locker room and went over on the chalkboard the full court press we would run the first time, no walk thru on the court at all.
I believe we played a 2-2-1 full court press and then we would also play a 2-2-1 half court press and fall back into a 2-1-2 under the basket. We used numbers and color codes for full court, half court and zone defenses basically for my deaf girl, it worked great.
Yes if I could have run the score up to 100 that day I would have. We did make the front page of the Tampa Tribune the next day
:D

Another game that year we beat the 4th ranked team in the state of Fl in the 1A classification, again that is another story for another time.

I mean I know its unfortunate that this girls team hasnt won a game in 4 seasons...but its just like in football...you do what you do and if they cant stop you then that is their problem. I mean I went to a Private school here in VA and we could go out and pound the last place team in conference 79-15 but you dont see anybody petitioning VIrginia Independest School Athletic Association and offering to forfeit the game. This head of school sounds like a panty wearing sissy boy who simply wants everybody to feel like a winner or something

Wait can you make it very clear what you are saying here? I want to get this on the record.

Are you, in fact, saying that women are playing as fast as they can and it is still slow? Are you then saying that women are slow(er)?

I had an assistant coach who played Division I ball and actually had a contract to play in Greece. He was an EXCELLENT coach, but couldn't commit to it full time, so I was the head coach and he was the assistant. A philosophy he had was that you NEVER take a press off in the first half. We had a very good team that year, and I told him he would probably change his mind on that. A few games after he had shared that philosophy with me, we played a team and was up 28-0 after the first quarter. I turned to him after the first quarter ended and said to him sarcastically, "So what do you think, should we keep pressing?". To which he mumbled, "Why do we schedule teams like this, what a waste of time!!"

The one thing we always taught our guys was that they were NEVER to let down defensively. We may hold them back on the offensive side, but defensively we expected their best. If we pulled off the press (which we would do if we ever got up by more than 20 in the fourth quarter, sometimes earlier), we expected them to pick them up aggressively at halfcourt. We never fell back into a 2-3 zone. Fortunately we only had to play 4-5 easy games a year. The rest of the games were usually against bigger schools.

As a former AD of a private Christian School I am shocked that someone would schedule a game that they know the team would get killed. For that matter why would the AD of the school that did the killing schedule that game knowing that that would be the result. As far as the half court press in the first half is concerned I am in agreement. You have to play the first half as hard as possilbe because you never know. If you have a big lead in the middle of the third quarter then you should be unloading your bench and getting some of the other players time on the court working on your half court offense and defense. You would think that the coach would allow them to score one way or another.

Here's an idea...If you don't like losing 100-0, score some points!

Ugh. You know that one of the girls on the losing team is having self-esteem problems right now and is in the opening stages of an eating disorder.

Wait a minute, doesn't that happen all the time in girls basketball?

If I am not mistaken according to a sport show, the Dallas Academy team are girls with special needs, like ADD, etc.

Are they in the same conference? Who scheduled this game? If Covenant scheduled it because they wanted an easy win, that'd be one thing. If it was a mandatory game (conference), that's different.

The coach of the Covenant team refused to apologize and has been fired.

http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=904726

The issue seems to be that although he "called off the dogs" fairly early, they then started pressing and shooting 3s again when they saw they could reach 100.

There is no shot clock in high school basketball, he could have run a four corner offense for an entire half, would have been good practice

the whole episode is freakin' sad.

I thought HS sports were supposed to be fun.

call me the eternal optimist. Or incredibly naive.

thank you ADULTS, again- for destroying what was probably beloved participation in amateur athletics for these kids (on both teams) before it got baZt@rdized by egomaniacs

anyone go to little league games?

In some starter leagues I've noticed they just stop keeping the score after a certain margin...that could've softened the impact.

I've thought about last year when Rashad slid on the 5 yard line instead of running it in at the end of a game....
