I guess this is what happens when you play one of the most ridiculous non-conference schedules in the country. Sure, Carolina is a good team but they're obviously not good enough to go undefeated like so many people were saying they would. I can't wait to see this happen again in the NCAA Tournament just like it did last year.

Non-conference SOS is 96 according to Pomeroy, which is fairly good when compared to other top 25 squads. Gtown is 147, Duke 107, pitt 173, uconn 175, arizona st. 183, louisville 194, purdue 257, etc. The only two ranked teams with a better non-conference SOS is Xavier and Tennessee.

They lost not because of their schedule, but because they couldn't shoot FTs today and the BC backcourt took the UNC backcourt to school the entire game. Tyrese Rice, Rakim Sanders, and Reggie Jackson made Tywon Lawson look like a JV player and clearly outplayed Wayne Ellington. Tywon Lawson wishes he could have had even half the game that any single one of the BC trio had that I previously mentioned. Also, the UNC bench did very little - Reggie Jackson by himself equaled the total number of UNC bench points.

It really is a relief to see them be beaten. I didn't think they'd go undefeated but just seeing them dominate everyone so effortlessly was getting a bit scary.

and BC essentially dominated them except for the final 2-3 minutes. BC was completely and unquestionably in control of that game the entire second half (when I started watching) up until that point.

I didn't see the game but you can't shoot 29 percent in the second half and expect to beat anybody. Before today I thought this was the best Carolina squad I'd seen in a long time if ever. Now I'm not so sure.

I think their awesomeness is more of a result of the atmosphere of college hoops today. UNC has four players that would be in the NBA right now if they had stayed in the draft (or declared in Hansbrough's case), but they decided to go back to school. How often do you have a school with that many NBA caliber players declining to go to the NBA in favor of returning to school. That simply rarely happens anymore, when players are told they are a lock for the first round they go 9 times out of 10 in this age. Those players staying at UNC has allowed them to be the most dominant team out there because other schools haven't had the talent continuity that UNC has this year, and although they have been nothing short of dominant in all but one game, that doesnt mean they are the best. I think this current UNC squad would struggle mightily with the 97-98 UNC squad that features the following current and former NBA players: Vince Carter, Ed Cota, Brendan Haywood, Antawn Jamison, Shammond Williams, and Ademola Okulaja came close to making it to the nba on three occassions. Two of those players have been NBA all-stars and brendan haywood has become a very servicable nba center, and I don't see even one future NBA all-star out of this current UNC cast.

What I look for every year with Carolina, is when they peak. Coach Smith had an uncanny ability to have most of his teams playing their best basketball just before the tournament.

I still believe that this current squad will have 1-2 more losses during the regular season, but will be playing at a higher level towards the end of Feb. beginning of March.

Pitt's SOS will be within the top 10 as well as RPI when the Big East Schedule is complete. Pitt will be #1 and should be for a while with St. Johns and South Florida upcoming. Hail to PITT!

#1 for the first time ever, I'd be riding the wave of that for as long as I possibly could and doing everything within reason to capitalize on it if I worked in that SID department.
