Winthrop was up at the half at home vs College of Charleston.. 44-41

11:45 to play, 2nd Half
C of C 61
Winthrop 63

Can Winthrop get a big D-I win or will they fail down the stretch like the ODU game Saturday...

they shot 60% and still lost. Oh what a difference one year makes. Their spirits must be crushed.

To the contrary, things look great. If we play like we did tonight we'll win the next conference game by 20.

Yes, we would beat any team in the BSC by 20 with that effort.

I'm thinking you should win a Division I game before you start saying you could beat any team in the conference by 20, no matter how good the effort.

You shot 60% and still lost.

You let a team that normally shoots 38.9% from three shoot 46.2% from behind the line. Do that against us. Please.

Hahaha.

A team that has done nothing ever, and has a pitiful program is talking junk? Maybe you should accomplish something before spewing things. And I'll be happy to let you jack threes. Unless you have an unusual on night, you'll lose.

I'm not talking junk. I'm just saying before you do, you should win a game.

Also, let's doing a little statistical analysis:

We average 25 3pt attempts per game.

We on average make between 8 and 9 of those.

We have lost to Clemson by 5, DePaul by 1, and St. Louis by 3.

If we were able to shoot just 7% higher from three on those nights, we would've won by 1, 5, and 3 respectively.

You may not think that extra 7% is much, but with a team like us, who isn't going to blow anyone out but is going to stay close with pretty much everyone, 7% is a lot.

I never said we were going to beat Winthrop. I just laughed at you saying one of the most idiotic things I have ever read from you in four basketball seasons.

Also, in two of our best wins, Gardner-Webb and George Mason, we won and only shot something like 32% from behind the line and I'd be willing to bet those two teams are better than Winthrop is this year.

Obviously. When you shoot 60% you should win by 20. The point is, even against the worst defense, the odds are very slim that you will do that again. That's why you should be crushed. That was the pinnacle of what your team could do and they lost.

You guys were awesome in past years, we've sucked in past years. Ok, currently you guys have 1 win, hahahahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahaha. You still might be better than us and beat us, but until then we're all gonna laugh at how much you appear to suck right now.

LU has done a heck of a lot more this year than Winthrop can even dream of up to this point in the season.

Over on the Winthrop board there is already a "fire Peele" thread. Seems like many have woken up to the same fact some of us stated when he was handed the job in the first place.

you now see why I stated that REALIST is- hands down- the biggest homer on this board.

Possibly, on his board as well.

He's remarkably consistent- for sure.

Realist you are my main man (Ahmad Rashad says it so why can't I?) but if you think Winthrop is going to win by 20 on us you are not being realistic. As far as the history of our schools I would say that Winthrop has had a decade of success and a whole TON of mediocre years. Liberty has not been around that long and only 20 years of division 1. We have been in the Championship game of the conference 4 times in 16 years of the conference membership. Great times are ahead. Winthrop is on the slide and if it weren't for Gregg Marshall we would have never heard of Winthrop basketball. I have been happy for their out of conference acheivements in the past but it is time for other schools like Liberty and VMI to rep the conference for a while.

Scar, what you don't seem to understand is that Faison just needs one more redshirt year and BFGBG!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I can"t wait til January 3rd, we will see it all unfold.

SJ... Liberty is close to winning all 3 of those games (Clemson, DePaul, St. Louis) and there also close to losing (GMU, W&M) there is a fine line between the w and l.... THe flames have definitely been in every game this year.

The difference is we've had the resolve to win a few of them. We didn't get blown out and then lose in our best game. I'm not predicting a win, but a 20 point loss is crazy.

And my point was that if we are able to win those games and stay close in the losses while shooting 32% from behind the arc, imagine if we were able to shoot 40% (which is basically what Winthrop let CofC do) for a game.

You really can't properly evaluate how a team is playing when they have a hot shooting night like Winthrop had against C of C. Everything is skewed, and there is no way you can expect to replicate that shooting % on any kind of a consistent basis, so the best you can do is adjust the score to what it would have been if you shot a more normal percentage (let's say 50%). In this case (all else equal) they would have lost the game by 12-15 points. Personally, I don't see how that is cause for a lot of optomism, but I'll be the last one to declare Winthrop dead. I have stated my "Rasputin" theory before, so I won't repeat it.

I posted some things on Winthrp fans... #1 Winthrop will win there share of BSC games, just seems to be too much parity in the BSC this year #2 if Winthrop finds some perimeter scoring they'll be tough #3 Peele screwed his young team early with his schedule, he should have known he was graduating 3 seniors last year.

But that being said I am shocked they got smoked by VMI and Radford already in conference play. The other losses aren't that surprising.

They'll definitely win some games, especially cause there are teams like HPU and Coastal and it's hard for other teams to win on the road. I don't think they'll win the league this year but they're not dead by any means.

Realist,

CofC can have some great offensive nights, but at NO time yet this season have they shown the consistent ability to play D for a half, let alone an entire game. Hence, the ability of their opponents to keep things close is high, as your team proved. That said, your inability to pull out a win is telling in its own right.
