Can't say that this is a surprise....

Now, the first — and second and third — dominoes have fallen.

Several recruits that have verbally committed to play football at Virginia for the Class of 2009 were contacted Sunday evening and told that three assistant football coaches, including offensive coordinator Mike Groh, will not be retained on the Cavaliers’ coaching staff.

In addition to Groh, defensive line coach Levern Belin and secondary coach Steve Bernstein were told that they would not be returning.

A high-ranking Virginia official could not confirm the news, and sources indicated that current players have not been informed of the departures. But the coaching staff is planning to intensify recruiting efforts today with several of the committed players with visits.

Groh is outliving his nine lives. How he still has a job at UVA is beyond me.

this was a long time coming. mike groh is awful. the shakeup will allow anthony poindexter to coach DB's something he should have been doong years since he was an all-american at that position. i wouldnot be surprised to see ron prince back as the OC. he was there during the schaub years and those offensive numbers were way better.

Honestly, I think Al's done a pretty good job up there. Considering that UVa is pretty much the Vanderbilt of the ACC, I don't know how you could honestly expect anyone else to do better.

So how long before Coach Rocco gets a call from UVA?

Hopefully a long time. Wake is the school that has worried me the past few years.

Realistically, do you think that if UVa fired Groh they would look to hire one of his former assistants for the job? Even if they did, Golden at Temple and London at Richmond both have higher profiles than Rocco currently does.

Alternatively, do you think that Rocco would accept a position if it meant he would be replacing his friend and mentor on less than friendly terms?

I agree completely, RTF. But there will come a point down the road where if Coach Rocco continues to excel that his UVa pedigree will certainly put him a position to be considered.

vanderbilt of the ACC?? that would be duke. UVA has had more success in football than vandy. indeed rocco's success will have his name in the running for many jobs, but i hope he sticks with us!

Auburn is the job that I think Grobe would leave for if they offer it to him.... Then that's when it's going to get interesting... I would be surprised if Prince comes back... Rocco was really the only one who give alot of credit to Groh when he left, I don't think his relationships was the greatest from what I observed..

prince had nothing bad to say. either him or dave clawson could be the next OC.

Prince never really said much, but he didn't really come out like Rocco and London did and say how thankful they where... Sometimes not saying much kinda gives the same vibe as saying something bad.. Maybe I am wrong, but that was kinda how I observered it...

Haven't heard much on Prince, but I read online that Clawson is going to bowling green.

as a UVA fan, i like this hire. Hopefully brandon will use the spread offense like he did at BGSU, and utilize vic hall more.
