The story on these guys' commitment is kinda funny.

Coach gets out there on Monday. Watches tape on them Monday night. Meets them on Tuesday. They fly here on Friday for an official. They commit on Sunday.

After a breakout freshman campaign in 2007, Butte RB Alex Green (6-2, 215) has already started to hear from several four-year schools. JCFootball.com caught up with the physical runner who hails from Oregon and he updated us on his offseason as well as what schools have contacted him and he even named a leader.

He listed Oregon State as his favorite. But this is of interest ...

Green is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have three years to play two following he season.

COSTA MESA — In 2008, junior college football's national champion was the Butte Roadrunners.

The phrase became preserved in history following the team's workmanlike 17-9 victory over Mt. San Antonio College in the California Community College Athletic Association championship game Saturday night at LeBard Stadium.

JCGridiron.com proclaimed in the buildup that the winner of the matchup would be crowned the champion of its country-wide rankings as well because both the Roadrunners and Mounties have ascended to the top two spots. Listed at No. 1 even before the battle was Butte, which showed why with convincing defensive dominance of Mt. SAC's hyped offensive attack.

Sly had a quote a few posts above that makes me think he has three years. But it was confusing. It said, "Green is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have three years to play two following he season."

So trying to interpret this, I would say the author meant either...

He has three years to play following this season.

Or

He has three years to play for two years, following this season.

So who know?

He has two years of eligibility and hasn't burned his redshirt.

"3 years to play 2" would mean he has 2 years of eligibility, but 3 years to complete them. In other words he could take a redshirt year.

It means he could redshirt a year and still play two or he could just play two years and not redshirt at all.

It means if his academics or something aren't in order then he could redshirt a year to get his grades up and not lose a year of eligibility.

Or if he got hurt, or if the coaches felt they were set at his position that year but needed him later. Regardless of the reason, there is a year's flexibility.

Since Alex is obviously a "need" recruit for a big back, I'm guessing he'll play right away.
