This is very good news. If we could only land a big time transfer center than we would be set.

BeamerBall.com Note:

Ervin Garner (WR - 5' 9" 162 r-Fr. Fairfax, Va. - Oakton High School) has informed Virginia Tech football of his intentions to transfer. It's expected that Garner will join Coach Danny Rocco and the Liberty Flames. Thank you Ervin for your contributions to Virginia Tech football, and, best of luck at Liberty.

BeamerBall.com Note:

Hunter Ovens (LB 5' 11" 203 R-Fr. Bradenton, Fla. - Cardinal Mooney High School) has informed the Virginia Tech football program that he is transferring. Ovens is expected to join Coach Danny Rocco and the Liberty Flames. Good luck, Hunter! And thanks for all of your contributions to Virginia Tech football!

Ervin Garner Just Wants To Get On The Field

BeamerBall.com: Why did you decide to leave Virginia Tech and transfer to Liberty?

Ervin Garner: Well, I just feel like I'm walking into a perfect situation at Liberty. They're losing their go-to receiver and their returner, and I just feel I can step in right away and make an impact and contribute to the team. I actually committed to Liberty on Saturday. Once I'm done with this semester, I'm transferring over to Liberty. I asked Coach Beamer for a release, so I could go and talk with other schools to see if I could find a place where I could get on the field. I didn't get into any games this fall here at Virginia Tech. And, that's what it's all about. I just want a chance to get out there and prove myself. I don't have any ill will or anything like that. I just want to play football and Coach Beamer understands that.

BeamerBall.com: How much eligibility will you have with the Flames?

Ervin Garner: I'll have three years with them. I'll play 2009, 2010 and 2011.

well this may help solve our problems with the receiving core. If we have Summers, Kelly, Eden, and this guy, then we may be able to use Mike Brown as our QB. I know it still comes down to who does the best in the spring. And we debated this already. But now that we have more options at receiver, I think our best athlete will be best used at QB. But Spencer is a good QB and he is athletic in his own right. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Either way, Mike Brown will be a big part of our offense next year.

Really? Another Mike Brown to QB discussion?

I don't think they want to put Mike at WR for depth issues. I think they want to put Mike at WR because he's a freak athlete and no one will be able to stop him. Combine him with Garner, and we will be unstoppable in the pass game. I could throw for 300 yards a game to those guys.

Someone needs to start a new thread, "Spencer Landis or TTL for QB?"

:) Spring ball just got a little more interesting.

I could be like the Kyle Ohman of the football team.
