LU checks in at 28 with 47 points, vmi 25th with 64 points and george mason is 13th with 327 points. Didn't notice until today but Ritchie McKay is on the voting panel.

That one's from before our game against Mason. The new poll hasn't come out yet.

With the Mason win, hopefully we'll break the top 20 today, as McKay predicted on his post-game show.

All this is good stuff guys, but as a board we have a tendency to over react to good news. Let's keep our feet on the ground and realize we have a good young team, but they are still young and will have significant growing pains going forward.

UNCA got down to 12th last year & one vote for the AP poll (No it wasn't Eddie B either although he's a voting member!!)- although exciting to follow & watch those things they didn't help us get to the NCAA's or beat WU in the finals..

Good that RMc is on the Mid-Major voting panel- too bad he's got to be associated with Gregg Marshall and Jimmy "I'll double team you" Patsos- now that guy is a joke!!!

Jim, the new poll won't be out until next Monday, and if Liberty loses to Gardner-Webb, I doubt they'll be ranked. I don't think a loss to Clemson would hurt, unless the Flames lost by 20-plus.

Impressive jump. I wonder how much pub. we're getting for Curry is boosting the perspective of LU basketball?

It's certainly not hurting.

As far as I can tell Clemson didn't make their top 25 like they wanted to. . . . does anyone know if that's for certain?

they don't deserve to be in the top 25. 9-0 is great, but look at their best wins (kenpom ratings in parentheses): illionis (29), temple (87), tcu (107), liberty (122), hofstra (123). the other 4 opponents are ranked 150 or lower and 3 of them are in the 200s. not exactly the marks of a tough schedule by any means...

No Clemson did not make it in today's AP Top 25 poll- they are in the others receiving votes with 141 votes, Dayton is above them with 155 votes & the #25 team is Kansas with 206 votes.. So Clemson is basically #27 in the country per the AP poll..

Both LU and VMI made the mid-major top 25. Of course, long-time BSC powerhouse Winthrop is no where to be found with their 1-7 record (0-2 in conference).

Has LU ever hit these rankings?

No, not according to the LU website:
Liberty is ranked No. 13 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, released Monday evening. The ranking marks the first time the Flames have appeared in the Top 25, after receiving votes last week (49) and for three straight weeks early in the 2006-07 season.

VMI is listed at No. 21, marking the first time in league history the Big South Conference has had two teams recognized on the list.

I am just wondering with us playing well, and VMI playing decent and with Garnder Webb joining the conference...does anybody think the conference is a bit better then expected this year??

Winthrop & CCU are both way down so I think we've just shuffled the deck a bit in the league.

I think the BSC is just as good as many predicted however it's different teams succeeding rather then the ones that were supposed to

but it's still early

Clemson is at #25 in both polls this week. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankings Notice that the top 4 teams in the mid-major poll are ranked or at least getting some votes in the national polls. To me, that is the significant part of the mid-major poll---it serves as a barometer of how close you are to getting votes in the national polls. Nationally ranked is cool, but even getting a few votes is sweet. And it can make a difference to a recruit. I hope Liberty keeps it rolling and collects some votes in the AP or the coaches' poll. Good luck.
