Roster:
  • Chris Summers 6’5” 190 Fr. Jacksonville, FL
Matt Lambros 6’3” 210 Sr. Calgary, Alberta
Eugene Rogers 6’0” 180 Jr. Grovetown, GA
Jimmy Eden 5’10” 175 Fr. Peachtree City, GA
Steven Crawford 6’2” 190 Fr. Lehigh Acres, FL

Stetson Tchividjian 5’11” 185 Fort Lauderdale, FL
We lose two big time playmakers in Wynton and BT, but Bolden has been very consistent over his career and is very experienced. He has proven that he can also make the big play, and hopefully he will have a huge year like Wynton did last year.

Crawford was an unknown for many going into last year, and the coaching staff was very high on him during camp. He wasn’t a huge role in the passing scheme last year, but he will be very much a part of it this year. We need him to step up and be a solid #2 receiver for us. If he does our offense will not miss a beat from last year and may even be better.

I think Chris Summers is the wild card. He was very highly touted when he came after originally signing with Louisville. He’s a big kid with a small frame and he showed some promise in the spring game. He may end up not even being our 3rd wideout, but he will still get on the field as we go with 4 and 5 wide many times.

Matt Lambros and Eugene Rogers are two veteran wideouts. They give us some valuable leadership at the position, and I expect them to play a role in our 4 and 5 wide sets. However, the two freshman, Jimmy Eden and Steven Crawford, could take some time away from either Lambros or Rogers if Rocco thinks they are ready to go. Also, Danny Broggin may see time as a WR as well.

Aaron Hewlett and Mark Blakeney also have a chance at some PT.

Basically, the #3-5 receiver spots are still up for grab as far as I can tell. We were dangerous at receiver last year with 3 all-conference caliber players in WJ, BT, & DB. With our very potent running game and confident QB I expect DB & co to have another good year.

When you have 6 receivers of 6 feet or taller that can make for some fun possibilities particularly on your red zone fade routes. I really think that Summers, Lambros and Rogers will be the three that you see coming off the sideline for spread situations although Hewlett with his speed could be an option as well. I think that youll be seeing him in kick return situations as a secondary option or even a secondary punt returner. Crawford and Eden (in my summation) I would not be surprised if they redshirted but you could also see both of them getting kick return opportunities as well. Blakeney and Tchivijian will probably be last guys off in late game situations if the result is already in hand (I heard that Stetson is related to somebody famous I think)

Staunton News Leader wrote:Crawford earns his stripes, and a scholarship from Flames
Former Lee player leaving legacy in Lynchburg

By Shaun T. Cox/staff • stcox@newsleader.com • November 21, 2008

LYNCHBURG — Former Robert E. Lee football player Jonathan Crawford finally got his due this year, going from collegiate walk-on afterthought to the top of the depth chart, earning a scholarship in the process.

After starring at receiver for the Leemen, Crawford turned down offers to play in Div. II to walk on with the Football Championship Subdivision Liberty Flames.

"It was hard at first," he said of not having a scholarship. "It was a big adjustment from high school to college, but I earned a lot of playing time my freshman year on special teams and a little bit on offense."

But then his coaches suddenly had a change of heart and moved Crawford to safety the following spring, a decision that did not sit well with him.

"The coach and I didn't really see eye to eye," Crawford said, "so I left for a year."

This is a position that scares me going into next year, especially if Mike Brown becomes our QB as many here feel will be the case. Summers supposedly has a world of talent, and BJ Hayes is explosive and quick, but the bottom line is almost ALL of our productivity at the WR position this year has come from Bolton and Crawford.

It doesn't scare me, especially if Chris Summers finds a way to step up. Mike Brown will more than likely stay at WR, because from what I've seen, we have plenty of other good QB's in the stable (Landis and Brennan) who will compete for the job, while Mike keeps doing what he does best... which is be a freak of an athlete all over the field.

I agree that we are in much better shape if Brown plays WR. IMHO he would be our go-to guy. Summers definately LOOKS the part, but quite frankly he has not shown much so far this year, and it's not because he hasn't been in the game. He has seen a lot of time in our 3 and 4 WR sets, but apparently he is not getting open, or Brock has no confidence in him, because the ball does not go his way often, and when it has, he has not exactly demonstrated the greatest hands..

Of course, we have no idea what Steven Crawford or Jimmy Eden will do, and there is always the possibility of an impact recruit. It's just that we have gone to Bolton and Jonathan so exclusively this year, and except for Mike, we haven't gotten much out of anyone who is coming back.

Jimmy could've played this year but why waste a year of eligibility on the 3rd/4th WR when he can be the 1st/2nd WR for four years? Pat Kelly will be able to step right in as well.

You're looking at a WR corps of Brown, Eden, Summers, Hayes, and Kelly next year likely.

Summers seems to not have the greatest hands, a lot of drops!

Yeah, I am pretty excited about these WR's.

Kelly is a tall kid, right? Would be good to have opposite from Brown.

Eden in the slot, I would figure based on his size/speed that he will be like Wynton in some ways?

Not to mention... BJ Hayes is just sick nasty.

I am stoked about WR. And QB. And RB. And TE. Offensive line? We'll see. Looks promising tho.

I don't think we have anything to worry about as far as the WR position goes. Yeah, we are losing two GREAT receivers in Bolden and Crawford, but we have plenty of talent on the bench and coming in the door. I'm looking forward to hearing about the competition during the spring/summer camp for the starting spots. As a side note, I do like that we've been getting the TE's involved more, so we cant forget about guys like Tommy Shaver, etc who are good players and still have a few years with the team. I really don't think offense will be a problem with this team next year pending the O-Line. Personally, I'm more concerned about defense. Specifically the secondary with Hicks, Grieser, and Calvary all graduating...

I want to see Brown play QB. He is a duel threat and has a great arm.

Right now, Spencer is a better quarterback.

The question to ask is are we better off with Mike at QB and Spencer on the sidelines or are we better with Spencer at QB and Mike on the field?

It would not surprise me if Mike Brown never started a game at QB here.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
