It is awful that a game with so much riding on it will be occurring with most of the students out of town. But the Flames have an opportunity to make a big statement to not only the selection committee but the entire FCS world if they knock off the Phoenix Saturday afternoon at Williams Stadium ...

A couple of notes to factor into the equation:

  • - It is generally believed that the Phoenix must win this game in order to get into the playoffs for the first time ever (sound familiar).

    - The Riddle-to-Hudgins connection that dominated us last year has seen their productivity slip a bit this fall

    - The Elon run game is much improved

    - Appy fans have had fun referring to them as E-loan.

Just trying to stir some talk about something other than this suad's place in LU history that is more appropriate after the season.

i agree! hopefully our team is much more focused than we are :?

from citizen-times.com, http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs. ... 8811120332:
Upon being asked what aspect of Elon's football team concerned him the most: (ASU Coach Moore)The veteran coach didn't point at the Phoenix's passing offense, which leads the league (253.4 yards per game), or their defense, which ranks second in both fewest points (20.6) and yards (315.7) allowed per game. Instead, heading into a game that will go a long way toward settling this year's SoCon supremacy, ASU coach Moore said Elon's No. 1 strength is its overall intensity.

I was at the Elon game last year, I saw our team's lack of intensity. We've got a LOT on the line this Saturday, I know our guys will play their hearts out

3 common opponents. Presby is the one with a glaringly different outcome, but they played them much earlier in the year, and hopefully our performance against them was a complete anamoly. We actually beat Stony Brook a lot more handily, and considering they had Western Carolina at their place, while we played them on the road, those results are similar. It would be an upset for sure, but IMHO they are beatable.

Can't compare their game vs Stony Brook to ours. Theirs was played in six inches of standing water. I'm serious when I say if there was a fumble and some guy was trapped at the bottom of a pile he could've drowned.

It seems unfair that they were able to play the game in a stony brook.

LU had 2 losses. Both of those games could have and should have been wins IMHO. This game can be the game that proves how much this program has matured. I know the seniors would love to play 1 more game and will show the desire to do so on Sat. GO FLAMES!!! BEAT E-LOAN

Straight from Elon's messageboard:
With the awsome crowd we had at Boone and Liberty students being on break, this could be almost like a home game.
Please dear God don't let that happen, that would be so embarassing. Biggest game in school history and we have a half empty stadium

That would certainly help all 7,000 fans to be at our loudest.
(I hope I am wrong and our students will step up and stick around for the game)

I should be careful to say that LU is not giving vouchers, the game sponsor is! But hopefully the thousands of folks who get them will take advantage!

They sent ticket vouchers to most of the local schools that can be redeemed for 1 adult and 1 elementary child ticket.

They're sending them to high schools and churches too if I'm not mistaken.
