I got flipped off a couple times.

Their team is pretty ridiculous.

Their coach called stupid timeouts.

That is all.

OH, and BIG SOUTH CHAMPS!

I know every team has them...but I really am intrigued with players that dont really get a chance due to certain circumstances. Sam Gado would be one and ZT would be another. Should Sam have ever been the go to back? No way he had a beast in front of him...should ZT? We all know what RJ is doing so it's an obvious no....but you cant help but to look back and wonder what they could have done if the featured back.

Another player (different sport) that's like that is Chris Caldwell (sp?) He was one of the best ball players we've had come through LU with true NBA potential (b/c he had the entire package) but just had NOBODY around him. He's another one of those players that if just could have gotten a break or 2 who knows (of if his coach would have opened up the other 2/3 of the offensive playbook  )

Yeah I agree about ZT, he got a lot of action tonight but I would have like to seen him utilized more the past few years. He did a little bit of everything his freshman year before RJ arrived

Staff reports

LYNCHBURG, Va. - To spring an upset against the conference champion of your league means there is little margin for error.
Gardner-Webb didn't seem to seize on that fact, or the football, in a 30-10 season-ending Big South Conference loss at Liberty University's Williams Stadium Saturday night.

And Chris weighs in ...

Liberty football coach Danny Rocco’s answer was short and to the point. At 10-2, do the Flames deserve to go to the playoffs?
“Yes,” he said simply, addressing the remaining crowd at Williams Stadium after Liberty beat Gardner-Webb 30-10 on Saturday night.

To get to 10-2, the Flames will have to beat an 8-3 Elon team next Saturday afternoon at home … and then wait. Even with 10 victories, a playoff bid wouldn’t be a certainty. The loss to Presbyterian on Nov. 1 may prove to be fatal. But the Flames (9-2, 5-0 Big South) are happy to still be in the discussion.
And here is the update on Rashad ...
The Flames survived a scare in the third quarter when Jennings lowered his shoulder trying to gain extra yardage on a swing pass from quarterback Brock Smith. Jennings took an inadvertent hit to the helmet and was on the ground for several minutes before walking off under his own power. The diagnosis?
“He got his bell rung,” Rocco said.
Said Jennings, who had a streak of 10 straight 100-yard games snapped after rushing for 56 yards on 14 carries: “I’m all right now. I’d be fine tomorrow, if we had a game. I could have gone back in, but didn’t because of the score.”

Plenty has been made of Rashad Jennings’ draft status. But the tailback isn’t the only Liberty player drawing attention from NFL scouts this season.
Several scouts have been impressed by the play of LU senior quarterback Brock Smith, who entered Saturday night’s game against Gardner-Webb ranked eighth in the FCS in passing efficiency at 159.51.
Smith has several positives going for him. He’s strong and accurate, and he’s left-handed. He’s also shown an ability to run the football, whether it be scrambling or on designed plays.

Playoff Bound?
This was the heading of Lang's article in Sunday's fishwrap. No mention of Big South Champs. No mention of undefeated in conference. The headline was all about our playoff possibilities. Even Lang has bought into our "Unfinished Business" slogan.

And I really hope the answer to his question is YES.

was able to watch the majority of the game last nite. Offense looked pretty good, but the defense gives me the willies. I just do not like the schemes that allow those 8-10 yarders underneath. But, it worked. At least, most of the time.

Good win- I was a bit disappointed to see the lack of fan support- esp late in the game. When Rocco recovered the fumble toward the end of the 4th, there was NO crowd noise AT ALL . Had the announcers not called it- you'd never have known.

And I agree with LUconn's unsaid comment.

Anyway- congrats to the guys- great to win the conf championship again and get the trophy on your home turf. Wish MASN had covered the ceremony- oh well.

We need to step up on "D" to beat Elon.

Yeah I remember that play, but we couldn't see anything. We had no clue it was a fumble until the offense came off the field, then we were like ok cool I guess we got the ball. Then we started cheering. But right away we had no idea what happened. And it was negative 10 degrees kelvin out there so I can understand the amount of fans that left.

I don't understand our students. I really don't. I remember someone once joked we went from having no fan base to a terrible fan base but at least it's a fan base. Our kids come to a game looking for a reason to leave instead of staying. Last night was supposed to be a celebration after the game and all of the students left. We'll be lucky to have 3000 students at the game next week simply because most of them don't care. The same thing can be said about basketball too. These are your classmates. They're out there working their butts off. They're just as cold as you are and they're not leaving. Wear an extra coat. Put on a pair of gloves. Come to the game and holy crap how about staying?

That statement doesnt weigh too much around here.
Rumors are rumors but some of the students have an idea about the football team's extra curricular activities and I have met plenty of people who wont even go in the first place simply because of what they know.
With that said, the majority of students dont have classes with football players in which there is any type of connection with them.

Besides, outside of Lafayette, every game is decided by the beginning of the 3rd, and there is no reason to stay.

We have guys that are business majors, some that were in religion classes, kinesiology, aviation, coms, etc. Chances are, most people on this campus have had a class with at least one player. Classmates also doesn't mean people that you're in the same class with. It means your fellow students. The people who go to class at the same school as you.

there is reason to stay, but i always here kids saying, it's not excited.

ok - it wasn't excited 3 years ago when we got raped by 20 or more every game.
Now we're raping teams by 20 and it's not exciting.

These kids can't be pleased, it's so annoying when students are always looking for something negative, get excited for once, we're pretty good.

Just my 2 cents:

Kids don't think our football is important because they are extremely uneducated about what division of football in the NCAA we are in or our conference or what the playoffs mean for this school. I can't tell you how many times i've been asked so are we like division II or somthing? Or so... when are we gonna play teams like Virginia and Tech? It amazes me how many people don't care because we aren't in the ACC, SEC, or whatever DIA conference. Because we are in a slightly lower level of College football our games automatically become unimportant. Our student body has no Idea and quite frankly doesn't care unless we start going to the playoffs consistantly I don't see that changing any time soon.

Depends. When you schedule them 2 times a year I can see the resemblance

True. and another thing I know we are playing JMU next year. But as of late we really haven't played schools that are "well Known" to the entire student body. I know a lot of the kids from the carolinas and virginia know who western carolina is and maybe some PA kids know about laffy. But on a wide spread scale the kids don't know our opponents and until we start playing nationally recognized teams like app state and JMU which we are doing I don't think there will be a change until then.

i agree with that. people don't realize how good we are because they haven't heard of the teams we are playing. they just assume since they haven't heard of them that they are no good. that will change as we start scheduling better teams though

It's just gonna take time thats all.

I think we get 5k-6k students Saturday just because its the most meaningful game in our history. How long they stay is dependant on how close the game is.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
