[Purple Haize]

So as the self appointed FF Concert Reviewer, here are some thoughts on THE WHO CONCERT Mrs Purple and I just went too in DC.

They went with a very minimalist stage set up. Not alot of bells and whistles. The back up band truly was a back up band. I am not sure they moved more then 3 feet from their original spots. But that is b/c the show is ALL ABOUT Pete and Roger.
At 64, they can both STILL rock. It was amazing that Roger could still belt it out after all this time. ALthough late in the show he did say his voice felt like it went 10 rounds with Tyson!
IT was LOUD, which is too be expected as that is what they are known for. I know they were the loudest rock band ever in Guiness, but not sure if they are still there. My ears are still ringingand I love it
Pete is a genius on guitar and in music. It really shows.
They closed the concert with just Pete and Roger singing Tea and??? WOW it was great.
My wife and I agreed they could have just played WHO ARE YOU and Baba OREILY (Teenage Wasteland) and called it a nite. Those were two of the best songs I have EVER heard live. Istill get chills thinking about them.
Mrs Purple enjoyed watching all the middle age men playing their Air guitars and keyboards reliving their youth. I just enjoyed singing at the top of my lungs things like "I wont get fooled again", "Teenage Wasteland", "Who the ..... are you" "Loooovve reign o'er me", and I must admit to playing a little air bass on Eminence Front (my favorite song)
They played for about 2 hours and it was magical. They can still rock and roll, and there is no doubt about it
I told Mrs Purple that I have really expanded her on a cultural level. I have now taken her to see one of the greatest vocalists ever (Tom Jones), percussionistst (Stewart Copeland, although you could argue Neil Pert and I wold be OK with that) and one of the greatest guitar players, Pete Townsend (with apologees, to Eddie and Eric) What a great guy I am!

Like most of my tix I get them on eBay or Razor Gator. I was able to get the Club Level for 100 a piece. Not too bad. The Police were more expensive (especially the one in Wrigley) and Van Halen was about the saem but I had AWESOME seats for VH.

PA MEDIC that is the truth!! I just sat back and took that song in!! LOVE it. It can now also be confirmed that it used to be played at LU basketball games about 5 years ago!

I don't like Eminence Front (I'm under 35); it just doesn't hold up well and sounds very dated in my opinion. My favorite is Baba O'Reilly.

Couldn't this be said about The Who in general?

The Who invented much of the sound utilized in the genre the past three decades. So sure some of it sounds dated if you are basing your listening on a generation of imitators.

As someone who grew up in Cincy, I have to admit that a thread about a Who concert still gives me the willies. It was such horrendous tragedy.

The WHO are the original hard rockers!! Sure some of it SOUNDS dated, but then again what doesn't? Baba O'reily is an awesome song and one everybody can identify with (of course CSI helps!)
As for the Cincy WHO CONCERT I remember when that happened. In fact it was a midwest catch phrase for large unruly crowds. "What is this a WHO concert?"
