GO FLAMES!!

I'm with you smooth...all to often we want to run before we walk...guys this has been a GREAT run and there is no way this season is a disappointment if we ONLY win the Big South...that's a great season. I think it's also important to realize I just dont think this is our time. Look at what Elon has done against some of the teams they've played, and then how we've faired. We'll put up a fight against Elon but I just dont think we're at that level yet.

Our time is coming, and it's when the auto bid for the BSC happens...then it'll take about 2 or 3 trips to the playoffs before we should be expecting to walk away with a first round victory. This is a process....
Coach Rocco is in year three. I believe with the amount of $$$ committed to this program even Coach Rocco would say we should be beating a solid Lafayette team at Home and a poor Presbyterian team on the road. Winning a weak conference means something, but being competitive with the top teams in the CAA and the Southern Conference is where we should be.
Football in the Big South is not at the level of where baseball and men's basketball have been because these universities outside of Liberty and Coastal have serious $$$ limitations to put in football. Now JMU, Richmond, William & Mary, Appy St, Elon and Wofford are making similiar $$$ commitments to LU. When will we be ready to compete with them? Will our schedule strengthen next year or are we going to continue with weak schedules hoping to go 11-1?

Our schedule next year has already been released. We play WVU, JMU, and Lafayette. That's a pretty good step up.

I'm with you in the fact that a TON more money is being put into our football program, heck the whole department. But that doesnt always equal wins right away. The New York Yankees would be an example of no matter how much money you spend it doesnt always work out the way you were wanting. This is still a process, heck yeah we should have beat them....in fact we should have stomped them but the BSC is new as well....these really arent excuses. You wont hear me saying these things in a few more years but keep in mind we really had to start completely over when Rocco was brought in.

We have the 5th rated rb by Mel Kiper, numerous transfers from D-IA and a senior QB having a strong year. I feel the expectations are appropriate and have been totally squashed with these two losses. If YSU would have had a solid year and beat us it would have been easier to accept. But beat YSU and lose to Presbyrterian please. Have Lafayette on your field with the playoff at stake and lose to a team who probably will not make the playoffs. Very disappointing.

Do you think that this year, with rashad, all the seniors for that matter , is the pinnacle of expectations for this program for a good while?

I am wrestleing with that question myself. Having a Rashad is a rare situation.(IMHO) Brock is great, but his shoes could be filled easier than RJ's. On top of all of this we are loosing a ton of talented Seniors. The guys behind them will step up and fill in I am sure, but (IMHO) , everything falls into place for a program every so often (As it did for us this year). I know that we will be good in the future, and I will be here supporting, but this years team had the MOJO in their favor. How long will it be before we see another team like this? I am currently on the glass half empty side of this question ( which is a bummer I know). If we dominate VMI, I take all of this questioning our program back :D

this loss was a heartbreaking dose of reality. but i'll be at the vmi game with 10 others in tow. and the next. and the next. cheering on the Flames no matter what. and if ppl start saying bad things about coach or brock or any of the guys, i will fight you.

go LU! go Flames! :cheerleader
Good points. I'll be at the VMI game, though not quite as confident of a fan as I would have been a few weeks ago. While many seem frustrated with coaching, I think that our coaches couldn't have come up with anything that would've gotten our tired and unmotivated players to do better; it sounded like they played as if they were intimidated. We were picked apart, but what else can you expect when you aren't pressuring the QB. Worse, was the inability for our offense to ever get going like it did in the first 5 min. of the game. We shouldn't have had to punt against a team like Presby, a team very reminiscent of North Greeneville.
I'm glad that some posts have perspective in regards to history and what kind of accomplishments our coaching staff has made over these three years. Granted, we aren't looking at an 11-1 season, but as SJ was mentioning, we do have some people who will be stepping up next year. Who would have thought that Rocco's first year would have been as good as it was following 1-10? Mike Brown will bring a different look to the team, providing he's the man next year and we have seem some great play from the younger backs on the team. Our biggest problems will be the same as this year- defense.
Let's hope to finish out 2-0 over VMI and G-W (a tougher task than many seem to think) and have a good showing against Elon.

Don't forget we have BJ Hayes and a slew of other RB's trying to make the Rost er next year. I think RJ is a once every ten year player to come through. We will be okay next year and like other people are saying, making the playoffs is a process.

Our problem with competing against JMU, W&M, and other CAA and SoConn schools is that we're not in the CAA or SoConn, so we've got a handicap in recruiting. FOr a recruit coming into a Div. I FCS program, that matters. It doesn't matter that we're the best in the Big South, or even that we play CAA and SoConn schools -- there's a perception out there re: the CAA and SoConn, and we're going to have a hard time getting past that, recruiting-wise. I think it's a testimony to how well Coach Rocco is doing at recruiting that we've had the interest that we've had this season.

very nice cut and paste......I'm not convinced that you are going to beat VMI or Gardner-Webb....that's why I said you're not the best in the Big South....but even if you do you'll always know that you lost to PC, a Big South team for sure.....just not eligible for regular season titles in football yet.

This coming from the team that praised the "best team in school history" this past weekend during our game in SC. Yes thats right the 1968 blue hose who went 7-4. Your field announcer practically gave a eulogy for the whole team, it was pathetic.

I still have no idea how you do not think Liberty is the best. You are crazy if you think that one win makes you pretty good. Let's see who reached 10 wins in the series first, then you can talk trash.

The few LU Players making terrible comments to a female, minor, watress (daughter of the hotel owner) before the game does not demonstrate that every team member was ready to play.

Moreover, Goach Gomes must have been disapointed. Come guys, our team should be respected on and off the field, a reflection of the school and the program.

Coach B.G. let the team know that a coach like Danny Rocco has every right to expect a better effort and performance on and off the field than what the team showed last week. Especially if you want him to stick around.

Coach Rocco (all the coaches) put in a great deal of effort, personal sacrifice and expections and the team needs to better mirror that.

I have been hard on Coach Wach in the past, but I think some times he shows more passion than the players on the field do.

Where are the GAMERS?

Believe what you want from the post, but I can tell you at least three players admitted to me that the team "wasn't ready," or didn't "take the game as seriously as they should have." Liberty was snoozing and got caught.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
