I'm far from an expert on this area of college football, but I do know that Youngstown has been a quality program, and with their big win last week, I say this has to be a GREAT victory for LU. On the road, historically strong program, big win this year - I give a huge "Job Well Done" to coaches, players, and all else who deserve a part...

Ed Dantes wrote:"Biggest win in history"? Sorry to douse some of the 'flames'.

Youngstown State, while a good program, isn't in the top 25.

Awesome, awesome win. Kudos to the team for not giving up. This win is among the best in LU History... but not the best.
they were in the top 25. And they beat the number two team in the country the week before we beat them.

I do agree with you though in that this is not the biggest win ever, but it is a huge win and maybe we will get that biggest win ever later in the season!

I second. Everyone I dealt with in the ticket office on my end was friendly and were hospitable in finding me a location to set up to distribute pass list tickets. To anyone who had to wait in the pass list line, my apologies. We went to a new system for ticket distribution that had it's difficulties and we should have the bugs out by next week.

As I was setting up the pass list and getting my tickets together, a couple of students came up and asked when the woman who distributes student tickets was coming. This led to a conversation about politics and the current state of the world. We joked about our differences in religion and politics. They were quite funny and used the location to debate with several of our fans on their political views. They were may more hospitable then the William and Mary students from last year (Guys screaming obscenities from their dorm room windows) and it was a great experience.

After Youngstown made fun of the LU program and those comments were posted through-out the FOC, it was great to see the Flames just lay out on the YSU players. TOE TO TOE. The Flames lived by Coach Rocco's goal to have composure, maintain your poise and show team unity. The Players did just that.

After the questionable 3rd and 4 yard call that lead to an interception late in the third quarter, it was amazing to see Coach Wach through himself on the ground and kick his feet. Then he goes over to the receiver's coach and verbally lays into him. He lost his composure, poise and team unity for most to see. Even Coach Rocco commented about keeping his coaches focused.

Congradulations to the team captains who demonstrated all three with that great final drive, even though one of your coaches did not.

This is the team to watch, winning and the way they win says it all.

Quote from Youngstown fishwrap.

“That really paid off in our last drive to win the game,” Rocco said. “I wouldn’t let the coaches get excited or lose their poise and the players responded to that.

So Wach only lost his poise on that INT - after that he chilled out?

We've never beaten a BCS school. The only FBS school we've ever beaten is Eastern Michigan.

My bad I got the BCS and FBS mixed up I knew I should have just stuck with the old faithful DI-A and DI-AA

BTW there are some video links of the highlights over on guinzone.com.

Thankfully we overcame that late INT because on the video it looks awful.

Recap on the game makes CSN:
FCS Recap: Twenty Photo Finishes

Flames Make a Statement

Coming from the Big South, the #25-ranked Liberty Flames were desperate to make a statement to the rest of FCS that they belong in the discussion about an at-large playoff bid this year. Up 28-21, they were well on their way towards making that statement until quarterback Brock Smith’s sideline pass was picked off by Penguin linebacker Mike Barlak with 2:31 left in the game. After Youngstown State quarterabck Brandon Summers found wideout Ferlando Williams for an 11 yard touchdown pass in the near side of the end zone, the game was tied at 28 with under two minutes remaining. Liberty quarterback Brock Smith then dusted himself off and methodically did what he had to do, completing four-of-seven pass attempts to bring the Flames into field goal range. Kicker Matt Bevins then booted the game-winner with no time left on the clock to give Liberty the 31-28 victory. Runningback Rashad Jennings would have a career day, running for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Flames. It would be Liberty’s first road victory against a nationally-ranked FCS opponent since Liberty knocked off #15-ranked Appalachian State in 1997.

The Fireworks were planned win or lose. Its cool whenever youngstown scored a TD they shot off red and white fireworks. but the show at the end was planned for some family night thing. it was 4th of july quality and was awesome when the team was huddled in the endzone as they went off when theyu were praying. Like someone said earlier it was very surrel.

Congratulations on your victory!,the last time you beat us we went on to win our first NC-I don't think we will be as fortunate this year. With the rankings and our numerous injuries I don't understand how they would predict your loss by multiple scores.Stambaugh is a tough place to play when there is a hostile crowd but usually the officials are a lot better to us on the road so it negates some of that home field advantage.Fortunately for us it was not a conference game because winning the conference is the only way we are able to get into the playoffs.Although I didn't like the outcome ,I was impressed with the never say die attitude of both teams ,it made for a really exciting game.If you continue with that kind of fire I'm sure your win streak will last a long time.

Thanks DavedS for the kind words. We beat a good team in YSU and wish you luck the rest of the year. As many have already said, the fans of YSU have been very kind/respectful to us, you have confirmed this as well.

I was mainly just referring to the Line and most people's predictions... I expected a close game the whole time.

Why do you consider this a big win??? Lets put it into perspective, I think YSU was the underdog here they weren't even RANKED!!!??? There whole defense is hurt, along with a few offense players. A healthy YSU team would have ran this LIberty team. Get over it. If we do make the playoffs it will result in a 1st round loss im sure. Trying to figure out why we acted like we won the super bowl agfter this game when we were ranked higher???

Your use of the term "we" implies that you are an LU fan, although it's hard to tell from the tenor of your post.

1) Youngstown WAS ranked in most of the polls, and ranked ahead of us.

2) They are a traditional powerhouse which has dominated the series between the 2 schools, and absolutely demolished us the last time we played them.

3) They were coming off of an EXTREMELY impressive win over the #2 team in the FCS.

You are pretty much alone in saying "I think YSU was the under dog here", with them playing on their home field, where they dominate, in front of a near-record crowd.

This WAS a BIG win for our program. I admit some have stretched the point to suggest it was the BIGGEST win, but it was BIG.

You make a good point...but remember...rankings aside...YSU is a storied I-AA program...with a couple (or more) national championships. I think you would see something similar if we beat App, Montana State, or even Georgia Southern...if those teams had similarly non-ranked status.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
