If the #25-ranked Flames win either of their two out-of-conference games versus #23-ranked Youngstown State out of the Gateway (who dispatched Division II Central State 38-0) or undefeated Lafayette out of the Patriot League (who defeated Georgetown 28-6 on Saturday) they would meet a key goal in securing their first-ever playoff bid.

Add Elon to that quote you just put. The article forgot to mention them.

can someone lay out all of the "At-Large" selection criteria please?

-an average finish in the top 16 of three major polls (TSN, coach's, & GPI)
-At least 2 wins against teams from auto-bid leagues (we already have 1, and need 1 more against Elon, Lafayette, or YSU)
-7 D1 wins

If we do all that, we get an "auto-bid" which basically we just need to finish in the top 16 because in order for us to finish that high everything else will have to happen.

but there is still a chance of us getting in without the autobid, right?

Yes, there's a chance.

How much of a chance? The way I see it, as Liberty we better get the Auto Bid. Just my opinion!

A .0000000001% chance, give or take a 0. The "earned access" is there to provide non-autobid schools a roadmap to get to the playoffs. If said school doesn't meet the criteria -- which isn't all that much really -- then said school probably doesn't deserve to get in anyway.

Bottom line is, if we do what we need to do to make the playoffs everything will work itself out. If not, we don't deserve to be in.

Again I say it. All of the items mentioned as criteria are clearly measurable except the potential bias of a poll. I have never liked the idea of a team's opportunity for something like the play-offs being subject to "polls." Win the right to play on the field and let the "polls" be amusing conversations for bored people. This goes for FCS or BCS.

So at 9-3 we are definitely out?

Wait, would we need 7 or 8 DI wins? because that would officially eliminate us if we went 9-3

We need 8 Division I wins.

9-3 means no earned access.

There's still a chance at 9-3 but it isn't very good.

So is the minimum number of wins 7 or 8? Not to get the auto, but to qualify?
Or does that clause not apply?
As in, last year we needed 7 DI wins to get in, but only had 6, which eliminated us. Is that still in effect now?

To get into the playoffs, FCS teams are required to have seven Division I wins.

To get the automatic At-Large through the earned access rule, teams from conferences without an auto-bid are required to have eight Division I wins with two of them being over schools from auto-bid leagues.

I don’t see us being ranked in the top 16 unless we’re 11-1. I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it.
