I think it depends more on the judge than the police officer as far as whether they let it go.

I was speeding and showed up in court and my only excuse was my speedometer wasn't working, and I had a receipt where it was fixed...and they left me go with defective equipment...

My wife got a speeding ticket, where she was going 41 in a 45 speedzone, but the schoolzone had started flashing, changing it to 25. The police officer didn't get the description of the vehicle right...not even the # of doors...but the licence plate was right.

When the judge asked the police officer, she said, "I guess I made a clerical error". The VA state statute also states that a ticket must clearly identify the driver and describe the vehicle...but the judge was like...you wife admits to speeding and these mistakes happen all the time...and he didn't let her go...but she did go to traffic school and got it reduced to defective equipment...but traffic school costs money, and so does defective equipment...I don't know which would have cost more.

I hate that the first thing you have to do when you get up there is plead guilty or not guilty. So you either have to lie or screw yourself before you even get to defend. Not that there's anything wrong with this, but it sucks. Because honestly, even if you have a good excuse, pretty much everyone up there is technically guilty of what they're being charged with, so unless you're okay with purgory, you have to say guilty right off the bat. And some judges, once you say guilty, that's all they need to hear and there's really no argument after that.

By the way, 25mph is the most ridiculous public street speed limit ever. It's virtually impossible for me to drive that slow, and cops know it.

just don't get pulled over guys come on!

I have never got pulled over and everytime I say this I always worry a little bit that it may happen to me very soon, but it hasn't. 10 years of driving and I have yet to get pulled over and I am far from a law abiding driver. Ones of these days my luck will run out and I will deal with this I guess.

Well if I had known the windows weren't legal, I would've gotten them fixed BEFORE this happened...anyway, my judge was really nice, he let a lot of people go...except the stupid ones, like this one chick who claimed to be 35 (but looked at least 50) who only had to do 15 hours of community service sometime between February and August 8, which was a reduced amount from the 50 hours that had originally been required, or serving 2 days in jail. She didn't do the 15 hours, and as such must now spend 30 days in jail (15 of which got suspended). And this other chick who had a wreck while driving with a suspended license. Then there was this one guy who's facing jail time, showed up in a t-shirt with sleeves cut off and ratty jeans with tons of holes, and greasy, unkempt hair...eeesh.
