I know I point out a lot of things I dont like all the time, but bringing Clemson to the Vines is BIG TIME! Great job to the staff getting that....

And the Davidson game this year isnt totally off yet, it changes about every week from what I hear, but no matter what they will be here next year cause they signed a contract. (Or they could pay uss a lot of $$$)

No, the Davidson game for this year is indeed totally off. There's no way Ritchie would release the schedule if there was a chance to still make that one work.

As far as next year goes, an ACC home game is great, and Davidson at home, with the two Currys, is a potential ESPN game in the Vines.

However, the conventional wisdom is that it won't be both Currys, because if this year goes as planned for Stephen, he will probably move on to the NBA.

There may be some life left in a possible LU/Davidson game. LU has one game less than the amount allowed by the NCAA (you are allowed 29 games OR 27 games + an exempt tourney...LU has 26 games scheduled along with the Vegas tourney). And Davidson has double-booked themselves and their game against Charlotte is in doubt again (which was in doubt earlier in the month, but WU and Charlotte moved their scheduled game to accommodate Davidson, but then Davidson has a game scheduled on the same day as the new date they agreed on with Charlotte).

Long story short, Davidson may soon have a schedule opening...and LU could add a game if they wanted to (without having to get rid of any existing game on the schedule). I'm not saying they would end up playing, but the possibility exists.

LU already has 27 games + exempt tourney scheduled. Flames would have to drop a game to schedule Davidson.

Also, there is no signed contract between LU and Davidson, so a game in 2009-10 is not a certainty.

EDIT: What I mean is there was no contract signed for a 2008-09 game at any point. When I asked Ritchie if he and McKillop were talking about a game in 09-10, he said they were discussing it.

I'm only seeing 26:

1. Montreat
2. UVA
3. Coker
4. W&M or SC state
5. GMU
6. Clemson
7. Anderson
8. Cincy Christian
+ 18 conference games

Am I missing one?

It's 27 because the exempt tournament is supposed to be counted as a single game, which gets you to 27. At least that's what I've always been told.

When I counted down, I counted one for each of the other 26 and one for the four games involved in the tournament. So that's how I'm getting to 27. So I should have said 26 + exempt tourney.

if you check college of charleston's schedule this year, they play in an exempt tourney (the new charleston classic), along with 20 conference games and 7 non-conference games (csu, sc state, usc, coastal, uncw, winthrop, and unc). That makes 27+exempt. Winthrop had 27+the paradise jam last season. Back under the old scheduling rules from a few years back, the rule was just 27 games (and an exempt tourney counted as one game). But when they got rid of the 2-and-4 rule, they increased the number of games you can play to 29 OR 27+exempt. I'm trying to find the thing I read back then that explained the changes.

Thanks, WEF. I had forgotten the wording on that rule.

No problem. And I'm not trying to say that LU is going to definitely play davidson...just that it could be possible if davidson's game with charlotte falls through.

Liberty in BracketBusters
By Chris Lang

Published: September 4, 2008

For the second time in three years, Liberty will be a part of ESPN’s BracketBusters event, which features mid- and low-major basketball teams from around the country, ESPN announced Thursday.

The Flames are one of three Big South teams involved in the event. Winthrop and High Point are the others. Winthrop will host a game either Feb. 20 or 21, and Liberty and Gardner-Webb will go on the road for the event.

Yes it is good. Here's the full list of teams playing:

http://www.libertyflames.com/media/1912 ... 0Field.pdf

There are 51 home teams, one of which is Winthrop. So, we could play any of the other 50 although they generally match up regional teams with like rpi. We could actually play Davidson, but not very likely as they should have a very high rpi and ours won't be.

Here's a list of teams i could see us playing:
  • Vermont
    Boston
    Drexel
    James Madison
    UNC‐Wilmington
    Old Dominion
    Towson
    Loyola
    Illinois‐Chicago
    Valparaiso
    Wright State
    Youngstown State
    Milwaukee
    Fairfield
    Marist
    Rider
    Siena
    Ball State
    Central Michigan
    Eastern Michigan
    Western Michigan
    Bowling Green
    Kent State
    Drake
    Evansville
    Indiana State
    Wichita State
    Murray State
    Eastern Kentucky
    Southeast Missouri
    Tennessee State
    Tennessee‐Martin
    Davidson
    Georgia Southern
Some of those are obviously less likely than others.

I'd like to see an ODU, UNCW, or of course Davidson vs. LU clash.
