Liberty University will be making some important changes to parking for the 2008-09 year. The most important of these changes is the institution will be towing any vehicle in violation of the parking regulation or posted notices. This will be done to protect the integrity of the parking regulations and to help ensure parking is available. Faculty and staff will also have separate parking regulations.

Faculty will be required to park in any of the parking lots designated as Faculty Parking (dark blue on the parking map below) and are prohibited from parking anywhere else before 4:30 PM M-F. Some of the faculty parking facilities will be gated. All faculty will be assessed a $50 fee for designated parking. The parking fee will be deducted from each faculty members’ pay after September 15th.

Staff will be required to park in any of the parking lots designated as Staff Parking (light blue on the parking map), but will not be assessed a fee for designated parking. LU Transit will provide service from PE01 and PM03 to assist staff in getting to/from their work locations.

Faculty and staff are asked to use LU Transit to traverse the campuses to help reduce traffic impact and to help us ensure adequate parking is available on each campus.

Vehicle registration will be Monday, August 11 through Wednesday August 13 from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Registration will take place at the Tolsma Indoor Track and the back hallway of DeMoss Hall. Please have a vehicle registration for each vehicle being registered. Faculty requiring badges for the parking gates will receive additional instruction during vehicle registration.

Super, is that an assumption, or have you interviewed any faculty? :dontgetit

My assumption was it was a $50 for the gated lots. I didn't think every faculty lot would be gated.

And $50 is nothing compared to what the students pay.

My understanding is that ALL faculty lots will be gated.

It needs to be. There's no reason resident students should be driving to class or parking anywhere but the places it says to.

I will gladly pay $50 a year to be assured a parking place...
...and I have always contended that there is no reason for residents to drive on campus.

I never really drove around campus at LC either and I was a commuter. I'd park in one location and leave the car there until I had to leave the school. Only time I'd drive to anyplace was if I had to make a quick trip to the library on my way off of campus, other than that I walked everywhere.

Looks like they really value their employees. The staff lots for the main campus are at Davids Place and the pit behind the old senior dorms way behind dorm circle.

$300 are you kidding me? It was something like $35 when I was a freshman. Yikes.

It more than doubled from my time as a freshman to my time as a first year seminary student. For the way the parking situation is, they are crazy for charging that much money for parking.

that is the staff parking, and there is no reason for them to park close to buildings. its not a big deal for them to get to work 5 minutes earlier to walk over to the building they work in. They don't have to be constantly in and out of the buildings like faculty and commuters do running to different classes.

did you ever consider that there may be a good reason for that? maybe they are trying to reduce the amount of cars on campus. commuters have to have cars, but residents don't. the freshman should be happy they are even allowed to have a car, not complaining because of the fees. its just the price you have to pay. get over it
That is kind of a crappy deal for faculty.
how is that crappy? i would happily pay $50 for a reserved spot on campus. thats a great deal. i'm sure if they don't wanna pay it they could get a staff sticker...
some people will whine about anything

at some colleges, including LC for example, freshmen resident students aren't allowed to have cars on campus. there are some exceptions, for example if you have a job off-campus and would need to drive there. of course, there are always some freshmen who bring their cars anyway, some get away with it, others keep getting fined and have locks put on their tires, but you'll pretty much find that anywhere that forbids freshmen residents from having cars on campus. do any of you think LU might be headed down that path, or do you think they will just result to making everyone pay with their firstborn child to have a car?

I'm sure there is a great reason...doesn't mean that it doesn't blow.

i think for now with capping growth and improving campus the freshman will continue being allowed to bring a car. We are adding a ton of parking over the next year or two. Also, Davids place pit hasn't filled up yet, although that could change this year.

I am glad they will be towing, I think all the parking issues caused by people parking where they aren't supposed to will be resolved within 1 week of classes because word will spread that people are being towed and everyone will start following the rules.

TDD, it does suck. but if you look at it in comparison to tuition and everything else, its not a huge deal. still less than the cost of books. its a necessary evil

Really? This may come as a surprise, but not all staff go to one spot and stay there all day. Also, students don't need to drive to each class.

Am I wrong to think this way...staff...get paid.....students...pay money...so shouldn't students get some advantages?

I think the parking situation is not nearly as bad as people think it is...especially with the david's place lot being paved....before david's place was so bad to park in especially if you're car was low to the ground

I am staff... I know that. And staff don't need to drive around any more than students do. The campus is too crowded for any of them to be driving back and forth constantly, hence the bus system. They both need to use it. And these new rules will make them.

exactly. staff don't "deserve" anything. they are being paid. students don't deserve anything either, but they have a better point than staff does.
either way, the population on campus is getting big and the administration is doing a good job managing it all. I'm sure Jerry Jr. would be open to any brilliant ideas anyone has here, so instead of constantly whining why don't you come up with some good ideas. If you put them on here they will get to him evenutally, trust me.

personally i think this new system will work much better than the old one and don't have a problem with it. I am used to riding the busses because I lived on campus last year, but commuters are no greater than on campus people. They don't need to drive to class, they just need to get on campus. after that its busses for them too.
