I come from a middle class family. We are blessed. The Bush Administration thrived on giving those in the upper class bracket some rather hefty tax cuts. Therefore, we struggle financially because we weren't rich to begin with. Things do not add up.
Obama's plan to create a "making work pay" tax credit to completely eliminate the whole idea of the income tax is, to me, ingenious. On the other side of things, Obama also wishes to simplifify tax filing. The Obama camp predicts that this will save Americans "up to 200 million total hours of work and aggravation, and up to $2 billion in tax preparer fees". To me, this sounds amazing. :D The issue of taxation will never be agreed on by all. For those of us in the "middle class", Obama's economic plans sound relieving.

For the record, people in the North owned slaves. Furthermore, people in the South helped to fight slavery by aiding the Underground Railroad. If people whose ancestors owned or traded slaves want to pay reparations, fine, but my ancestors (who were Irish) also came over as slaves, and we got over it. Those who demand reparations don't want racial harmony -- they just want another check for doing absolutely nothing.

...and by the way, I'm young. This issue is just starting to hit home to me. I'm still grasping all the taxation jargon...bear with me. :)

Except the Bush administration's tax cuts resulted in less taxes for everyone -- and if anything, screwed the rich -- who are paying a higher percentage of tax revenues now than at any point during the Clinton administration. But don't let facts get in the way of irrationality.

is it a 23% taxation on everything under the condition that the an employees entire earnings are kept with no taxation?

in some ways, it sounds appealing. imagine not having to file a tax return, or give an obcene ammount of your earned money to the government.

on the other hand. 23% seems like an aweful lot, especially considering how the cost of living keeps escalating. In P.A., we do not pay taxes on food or on clothing. By charging 23%, a grocery bill here would increase astronomically....

This plan has potential, but needs some repairs. I love the idea behind it, just not sure I'd be ready to jump on board.

obviously it would be changed some as it went through Congress for approval, but it is a lot more complicated than a flat 23%. You aren't taxed on your first certain amount of dollars, i don't remember how much. all your income is tax free, so you are only taxed on what you spend. you don't have capital gains taxes, so you can invest your money and earn interest without having taxes to consider. Millions, maybe billions would be saved by shrinking the IRS through this plan. It is a great idea from an economics standpoint, but will never be implemented because there are too many jobs and too much money made off our current tax system (tax preparers, auditors, etc)

So true. How pitiful is it that, quite literally, we have become a nation that makes bank off of skimming the tops of its occupants paychecks? It sounds like a good plan. complicated, needing work, but a good plan none the less.

I was hoping to ask Psalmist if he agrees with Obama's assertion that Americans are to blame for high gas prices because we don't properly inflate our tires and get tune-ups regularly but it appears Obama has already changed his position.
Obama dropped his blanket opposition to any expansion of offshore drilling

You, my friend, entered your personal opinions into the fray, not me. I merely gave you an opportunity to backtrack and not "...appear like a blubbering liberal idiot...." (Your words, not mine).
In case you want to cross-reference your statement for contextual purposes:
I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. Lets remember, I've grown up there. I feel I have the right to make such a judgement call...I brush arms with these people every day...They are in my place of work, in my church, in my family....Sorry to appear like a blubbering liberal idiot....

How about Obama and his plan to tax the oil industry with a wind fall tax and redistrubte $1000 to American families for the next five years I believe. Let see, Russia had a plan where the Govt would take from you and redistrubte to the state. Does that sound familiar to anyone?
Let see the Congress didn't care in the 90s when price of oil was 30 dollar a barrel and the oil company was laying off people and people were losing their houses, etc.
So lets see, Obama will tax an industry doing well and redistrubte their wealth. Meaning any other industry doing well, could face the same scenario.

I wouldn't be surprised if Obama instituted a form of the fair tax. In other countries it is called a "VAT," but as smooth as He seems, he could get many Americans to believe that this is fair. Hey- he could use such a tax to get some money out of the majority of Americans that pay very little income tax. Even by his own admission, he will need to raise taxes in order to institute his policies that benefit the takers of our society.

all i keep hearing is "this is news to me" "i haven't done research" "i'm not familiar" or "i don't know"

seems like one needs to do more research before making "no church involvement whatsoever" type statements....

This Obama girl is not even a student at LU, instead she is a student at LC. Maybe she will say she meant to enroll at LU.
What a maroon

If you are referring to Michelle Miller, she is no longer a student at Liberty. She just recently dropped, though. The new leader of LU Students for Barack Obama is actually a faculty member! I'm excited to get my hands dirty with the new leader!
