Which is such a Christian movie. That's what Hey Baby is known for. If we can play that, we can play other secular songs in the stands. Didn't the band used to play Iron Man in the stands?

They did...and apparently Dr Falwell (or somebody I forget how the story goes) complained and the band had to stop playing it. I for one would love to see more diverse songs in the stands. I know there was more variety back in my early years in the program (one of my favorites was 25 or 6 to 4)

Sorry...it was the first one that came to mind. I like that somebody suggested Carry On My Wayward Son...Ive heard the actual song and it'd make for an interesting tune for the folder. Does anybody do Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top?

actually Im one of 5 this year and Id less say water boy and more like we are the behind the scenes workers because its more than just distributing water (which actually was all I thought it was until I found out all the different things that have to be done during practice and on gameday)

Chicago is awesome. Even if you don't know it, you should be subjected to it. That's what I think at least...

Yeah, the Kansas material would actually fall in line with the school's music standards. Kerry Livgren is co-starring in Kevin Max's upcoming movie. I'm serious.

25 or 6 to 4 plays well to the Baptist side who think of Chicago as music and not just a home to a bunch of Northsiders who pretend to like baseball in order to get off work and become inebriated midafternoon.

Does Dr. Kerr ever create his own arrangements of songs? If so then there should be plenty of material to work with that would entertain the students without angering the Baptist side who pay the bills.

If people know it then sure. It didn't click with me right away but I didn't realize it was from Chicago. I'm all for it if people know it.

To my knowledge Dr Kerr has never arranged any songs. I think it'd be an interesting thing to try. I may be on my way out but Id like to compile a list of songs that you guys would like to hear and send it in to Dr Kerr. Ive got a pretty good friendship with him so Im sure he wouldn't mind.

Line in the Sand - Motorhead
China Grove - Dobbie Brothers
Theme from "The Contender" - Hans Zimmer
Soldiers Arrive - Steve Jablonsky (Transformers Score)
The A-Team theme
Airwolf theme
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin
Take Us Out (Rudy Soundtrack)

...just to name a few. Of course, I see these at tunes from the stands, not necessarily a halftime show...but who knows.

Good call on Wayward Son, I have that set as my alarm every morning. 25 or 6-4 is great too. As to Hey Baby, I am so tired of playing that stupid song I would love to have it taken out entirely.

Super Jon, please don't think I am trying to cop out of responsibility or that I don't want to hear the opinions of people on this site. I simply want to stress that we are doing the best we can with what we have both in the group makeup and the decisions of how we perform from the leadership of the band. Yes we make suggestions on things like music for next year and show ideas (and multiple shows have been suggested as have less technical drills) but in the end it is up to Dr. Kerr and a select few of the officers to make the call. It is possible that your input would help to change some things better than mine or other band members would. Simply send an email to Dr. Kerr or slide a note under his door. Please try to be as respectful as possible when doing this but if he sees that it is not just a few in the band who would like to see this but the fans in the stands as well, things might change quicker. I am not down shooting any ideas or opinions voiced by you all (except for the impossibilities like secular rap songs simply because I know that the leadership wouldn't allow it), I just want everyone (including me) to remember to try and respond respectfully to all involved. I apologize if I come across as defensive sometimes but like i said earlier, these people are my family and we work hard to do well. Some do it for their own enjoyment and others for the crowds enjoyment. Personally I do it for both.

Hey...I haven't read this thread in a while...but I for one like the band and appreciate them...although I'm biased b/c I used to be in the band.

I also wanted to go to Salem to see the DCI show...but had a tooth pulled and was in pain.

North Greenville is bringing their marching band up to Williams Stadium and will be performing at halftime of the opener (probably first)

I marched in the band for my freshman year of college. I was on the Trumpet line and did a solo and some high notes. this past summer i Marched in DCI, For the amount of practice time that the band gets compared to a DCI band the LU Band is really really good. With every band there is room for improvement. But honestly they do the best job they can with the time they are given to learn a show and clean it up.

So we were practicing yesterday and Jeff Barber, Bob Good and Kevin Keys stopped by, said how important the band is to the whole athletic experience and to show their appreciation got popsicles for the entire band. which everyone enjoyed at the end of practice. Itll be interesting performing this weekend and sharing with North Greenville's marching band
