There are seven games next year. Please, for the love of God, as awesome as that show could be, please tell me we're not stuck with it for seven games.

I am currently a member of the band and would like to address the issues some people have had with the style of show we do. Believe it or not there is a reason we do only one single long show that generally takes a few games to get perfected. This is so that there is always something new for the fans to see at each game. When we start out we just get the basics of the first few pieces and then the next game we try to add more "flair" such as horn flashes or dances in those pieces along with the new piece that we then tack on to the end. Now as BJ mentioned earlier sometimes due to weather, injuries, or illness these extras are not accomplished as well as we would like and we must then decide what would be best for us to learn, ,be that the flair or the new music, in the time frame we have left. As to the music choices themselves, the theme of the show and the pieces that go with them are selected by the band members themselves and voted on by the leadership. Some years there are not a lot of choices and others it is overwhelming. We try to best accommodate those pieces that are recognizable and fun to hear, as well as those that we can work good visuals into (like the trumpet line playing each other's horns two years ago or the massive chorus line merger last year). This being said I would like to thank you all for your support of the band. Unless you have been in one before, you have no idea how amazingly gratifying it is to finish the show and be deafened by the crowd when we finish (especially those weeks we play to the student side). Please try to remember that it is not easy to put together a show as large and as complicated as ours are but that we all work our hardest to make your experience during halftime as enjoyable as possible.

You're preaching to the choir. I marched. I was a squad leader. I was good. I still think playing two shows would be much more entertaining for the fans. No one is watching how precise your 8 to 5 step is or how you did a right flank follow the leader through the drumline. No one watches that at football games. At competitions, yes, but not at football games. If the show was less difficult and involved less moving you could produce two and maybe even work on things to play in the stands besides Hey Baby. Yes, I'm critical, but it's because I've seen high school bands do it better and know how much the band adds to the football game experience. That's what it is first and foremost. People are their to see the football game, and the band adds to the football game. There aren't 14,000 people showing up for the band. I'm sorry if it sounds rude and to a lot of band students it does because they only see one side of it. I've been on both sides.

Thank you, Now I know who to be mad at... The Band members for picking bad stuff

P.S. Most Other Colleges do something great at every home football game, so why cant we?

Believe me Jon I agree I have been there too. And as to stand music I am right there with you, ours needs lots and lots of work because it doesn't get any. Speaking from experience with this band however, half of our people have never marched before and the rest have all come from extremely different backgrounds of marching. Personally my H.S. band was 50 people including pit and guard so I was overwhelmed coming in and that was only due to size as marching style and form was exactly the same. It is hard enough to teach some of these new marchers the basics and one show, let alone 2 or more even if they are simpler ones. Dr. Kerr and the leadership do the best that they can but there is really only so much that can be done with a band the size of ours but with the little experience. For those out there who base us against DCI level bands, realize that almost the entire band if not all of them are there specifically for music and marching band whereas we are filled with varying degrees most of which have nothing to do with music. Personally i think a little more selectivity would be just fine but that is not my decision to make.

Ok tyler define great? When you get into a matter of opinion like that there is no pleasing everyone. What i think is great might differ from yours or bj's or jon's or whoever.

HAHAHAHAHA people would cry about the band. It's boring, the same rountine at every game. Actually Jon we do watch the flag girls, and count how many times they drop flags. It keeps us busy while the band plays the same old boring songs. "From the tribes of Malagaynia!" Random countries

Luckily you shouldnt have to worry about the songs this year since they are all from pretty obvious places. I can't speak for the flags but since the new captain was chosen to be in a DCI band and only missed out due to injury they should be a lot better this year...agian though we are dealing with new marchers a lot of times...however if you would like to come try out and see if you can improve them or us then I for one welcome you! :P

well tyler (and i know thats not your name but since that is what you have on your login that is what I will call you) I think that you are just going to have to bring your ipod to every game because I can guarantee you right now that we will not be playing "party like a rockstar", "Ay Bay Bay" or any of those other songs because of the band leaderships views of that music. Personally i like those songs (not necessarily when done by marching bands) but again that is not my call..we can vote but there is veto power.

I wasnt asking for those exact songs... Just something with some Energy like that... I love that music, but not really by a band either, it just brings energy.... Right now I would rather watch a plastic bag being blown across the field at halftime than our band.

again hopefully with the songs we have this year that should be covered pretty well (see BJ's message further up to see what those songs are) as to what the show looks like I have no idea at this point sorry.

In any case, the band isnt perfect Im not gonna lie (what group is for that matter), but they are still doing the best they can to put a good product out on the field as my friend said
