Well, a lot of our wishes are coming true. The one thing we wanted in our new assistant is a pipeline, and I think we just broke the pipe! Dominic Okon played at three rivers juco and then played DI after that, he's since returned to Three Rivers.

Coach D actually brought him over here with Aluma but things didnt work out to allow him to play for us here with Aluma (no $$$$ left). He's got a great personality to combine with his vast basketball knowledge AND PIPELINE!

I'll let PA or sly see what else they can pull up on him and post it but I just wanted yall to be the first to know (now that it's official)

Look for the press release in about a week or so, it still needs to be run past Human Resources

We hire a coach off a team manned by Aluma, Nwosu and Mohammed Acha, the guy who put Coastal on probation in the mid-90's. It really is a tiny, tiny world.

What a job in assembling a staff. ACC/Big East experience in Coach Sherard. NBA/Athletes in Action in
Coach Jones. Texas/Big 12 in Coach Eaker. And now Dominic Okon brings top ranked Junior College and strong international ties. This is a window of opportunity for LU hoops. In talking with Coach D he expects some early international commitments of big men ala Aluma, Nwosu.

I'll be impressed later. WHERE people come from has never held much water. WHAT they can do is always more important. I couldn't care less if his staff came from The Sisters of the Forgotten Miracle, as long as the can coach. Just look at LU history as a nice guide. What experience did the last 3 head coaches bring to the table and their staff's?

mr. negative himself is back at it. this is a tremendous staff and should be recognized as such. sure they now have to move the program to the mid major status but from what i am seeing progress is being
accomplished. we are glad that Coach D has sherard.jones, okon and eaker on board. Thanks for being flames and go get it done![/b]

I don't think he was being negative. Not being positive does not mean you're being negative. He was basically saying the names are good and all, but the time he will be impressed is when progress is shown on the floor. That's legit and reasonable.

Ultimately this looks like a good coaching staff on paper, but until the lights come on and the ball is tipped, that is when we will know if they are moving the program up or not (progress).

Ok Mr/Mrs Guest, how was that negative? If I WANTED to be negative I could have pointed out that we have one assistant who was more of a student manager at the Big 12 school, one who worked for Pete Guillen's stellar UVa program and one who doesn't appear to have a lot of D 1 coaching experience.
My point is that we are told EVERY year what a "great" staff we have. Seeing as they have all moved on then they must have been. Looking at the pedigree is very rarely an indicator for success (Quinn Snyder, Jobe Wright, Guthridge to name a few) So that type of stuff does not impress me. What does impress me is when players and teams are better at the end of the year then beginning. If you look at LU's head coaching history instead of looking at labels then you would see my point. Since obviously you are too busy to A) Take a quick glance at a media guide and B) Register then I will give you a thumb nail sketch
Randy Dunton - Maine and Alaska high school coach - Team went to NCAA tourney
Mel Hankinson - Big East etc - Fans are STILL in therapy
Jeff Meyer - LOT's of places, but no real "pedigree" - Team went to NCAA tourney
Gibson - High School Coach - Won LU's only national team title (just ask him!)
So you see, the one here on the list with the best "pedigree" had the least successful tenure. So if you can be more specific as to how THAT is negative, I will listen. Otherwise, tend to your own business as you obviously don't have time for this.

PA - I am glad I could brighten your day!!

(Sure this was a harsher then usualy post for me, but I am trying to get in the "bash the guest" spirit!) :D
