Whos the Hype?

I have heard Floyd is the best player coming in.
So many think that Curry is the best pick up for our class.

I would have to go with Carter McMasters. The guy is our only three star recruit and he was the only one that was offerd a scholly by some big time programs.
I know Curry came on late, and I hope that Brolin is real good, but why is all the hype over these two guys. Isnt Carter our key recruit in this class?

We've discussed this class ad nauseum for so long it has somewhat died off.

There is no question that Seth & Carter bring in the most credentials. It is also true that those who have seem them playing on campus believe Brolin will make an immediate impact. Frankly Austin Smith could prove to be just as valuable considering our need for a big body down low. And Jesse could have an even greater impact on our offense running the point.

Regardless of any of the speculation, it is safe to say we are ecstatic that we have this many kids coming in at once who could be playmakers from day one. And considering our turnover due to graduation and attrition, we are going to need these guys to be special.

Purely coincidental. :D

Ideally, it would be great if Carter & Austin played about 20 minutes each at the 5. It's rare to have a center like McLean, who plays 37 minutes at center every game for two straight years.

I think that we'll probably go a little smaller at the 4. Floyd should compete for time there. His shooting range isn't really geared for the perimeter, but he seems skilled enough to be successful as a 4 in McKay's scheme.

I understand that this class has a good balance. I was just wanting to get an over all feeling of who people think our best recruit is this year.

Brolin is probably the best recruit from what people have seen so far. But everyone has their own kind of promise coming into the season.

Most objective people who have seen them all play so Brolin is the best. Most of the media and general public will say Curry is the best because of his name. Some of the recruiting experts say it's Carter. Bottom line is every single one of these guys have thier own thing they do well, and who knows how good they may be in 2-3 years. The most important thing is for them to gel as a team as this will be our team for the next 4 years.

'Sounds like Brolin is the second coming of SCAR, except the freshman has a far inferior haircut than the man from Philly (yea, I've seen the ETSU video clip).

Apparently, some are just starting to hear about Floyd's potential now, but in actuality, he's been a potential starter at the four all along. In fact, all of the newcomers have the potential to see starter-like minutes in some capacity.

Jesse Sanders has a tremendous opportunity to be a real impetus toward this team's success if his game is strong from the get-go and he maintains a high level of consistency throughout the season.

That said, Seth Curry still stands apart as the guy with the most upside. He's smart, he can score, and as he grows and fills out, he may end up with a body comparable to Dell's. The big question that will have to be answered will center around his shooting, which at this early stage, looks strikingly similiar to his Dad's and his brother's. If this kid ends up with ice-water in his viens, which seems to be the family norm, and knocks down big shots in big situations, then this program will take a major step forward.

Either way, it should be a fun ride this year.

Isn't he only 6'4"? That's pretty short at power forward unless your name is Barkley.

They have him listed at 6-5, which is not undersized by big south standards. Beyond that, yes, 6-5 is undersized.

Floyd will have to make up for lack of size with quickness and athleticism. Gabe Martin had success there at 6-5. Brewington, at 6-5, looked unstoppable there for the brief moments that he played the 4. Oldflame seemed to make a decent argument for Dees' potential at 6-4. He may be right, but I'm not so sure that he had enough toughness to play 4.

I thought we would have McMasters (or Baker) at the 4 and Smith at the 5. :dontgetit

It's uncertain as to if and when Baker will be ready to fully compete. So, he's somewhat of a mystery man at the moment.

My best guess is that Carter and Austin will share time manning the middle, especially if McKay ends up favoring Floyd at the 4.

Do you really listen to dox on topics like this?

He gets an idea in his head, and suddenly it becomes inside info.

And yes, for all of the rumblings he's generated on this board he has had his facts straight more often than not. Granted he has very strong personal opinions that often play into his posts. But frankly I love strong personal opinions on a board like ours. 8)

haha... if you say so dox. Your analysis on Winthrop alone makes you out to be a misinformed informant, so once I see an ounce of what you say come thru, I might start putting some stock in you. Your thoughts on the BJ situation don't help your cause, either.

Forget about Winthrop, that's just me having a little fun with an LU rival. I don't mind stretching it a little just for fun. However, what I said about the kid from Wake is true. I'm not so sure if even Realist will touch that one, especially after I schooooooled him on Andy Buecheauart, or whatever his name was

But, all in all, maybe I'm just a heck of a lot more handsome than you, and you're just a little jealous. I'm used to that sort of thing

Nah, I don't have any personal issues with ya. Just prove me wrong for doubting you and I won't be able to talk smack about anything but your handsome looks. :P

With Baker's deadly 3-ball aim, I'm surprised that he's not challenging Smitty for the 3 position.

Tyler Baker could start at any position, he just picked the 4 because he wanted to be fair. He could be the only guy on the court and still dominate...
