Called "The Strangers" it was one of the scariest things i have ever seen... Numerous times I almost ticked myself
If you like scary, suspenseful movies that arent really that bloody and gory this isa good one to see!

Is this the M Knight Shamalan movie? I have my reservations about his movies after signs and the Village. I wouldn't even see Lady in the Water. I know he is a Philly guy and all his movies take place there for the most part (Signs, 6th Sense, Unbreakable - 2 of these movies I loved by the way), but I will have to wait for this one to come out on video....I used to love the old Get Smart TV show and I may go see Steve Carrell's version this weekend. I am not sure yet though. I like to be wowed when I go to a 10 dollar per person movie. I loved the new Indiana Jones movie and we might just go see that one again which is something we never do. Maybe we need a movie critics thread.

That's "the happening" which is Shamalan's last chance at a good movie.

which probably means it was actually good...it seems as if whenever i hear a lot of good things about a movie it sucks and whenever i hear a lot of bad stuff about movie its normally pretty good....

'Signs' wasn't horrible. It wasn't anywhere near 'Sixth Sense' but that was a lot to live up to. That said, I could call the "twist" on 'Village' just from watching the previews and 'Lady in the Water' was a nearly unforgivable ego-fest.

I thought Signs was pretty good actually, I just thought the Village was the biggest waste of life ever besides listening to Ron Paul speak :D

the strangers was ok up until the ending....i'm fairly certain that hollywood has given up on movie endings...its retarded...like they have a great idea but can't close it out....stupid....

the happenning was horrible. i nearly turned it off 3 times but i kept going "its a shamylan movie....there has to be something in the end that makes this all worthwhile"...yet no nothing....

you pretty much find out why they are all killing themselves 15 minutes into the movie.

some people will probably say "IT WAS AWESOME IT MADE YOU THINK" kind of crap but thats just silly

btw, i love most of his movies including the village....great flick even though it was predictable...

i really have like all his movies except for lady in the water...lady in the water was the biggest waste of time....most everybody I know absolutely hated the village simply because it wasn't the kind of movie they expected...and it was advertised all wrong...but all of those things don't make a bad movie....it was pretty decent and i enjoyed it...not one of my all time favorites or anything, but i liked it...

I'm a Shyamalan fan. Everything he's put out except Lady in the Water has been quality, IMO. From what I've read of The Happening, I'm going into it expecting to see what amounts to a very self-aware B-movie. I'm ready for cheese, bad acting, ridiculous writing and a little suspense. Hopefully I won't be too disappointed.

I'm most likely waiting for the DVD though.

that's an interesting point. How does he keep getting the huge names to be in his movies when all but 1 has bombed?

Mel Gibson
Bruce Willis
Paul Giamatti
Joaquin Phoenix

I thought The Happening was alright. It was better than Lady in the Water but not as good as Signs and nowhere near Sixth Sense. Mark Walberg isn't that good of an actor so that takes away from it at times but I don't feel at all like I threw my money away. Is it award winning..no, but worth seeing eventually.

  • Willis was in the one that didn't bomb.

Gibson is on record as having really liked the Christian aspects of the 'Signs' script.

Phoenix was not that big a star when 'The Village' was made and certainly not when 'Signs' was made.

Giamatti will do, well, anything. Literally. This is the same guy who appeared in 'Shoot em Up', 'Paycheck' 'Thunderpants' and 'Big Fat Liar' where Frankie Muniz turned him blue. He also, to that point, had never had a big-budget starring role.

Thanks for the perspective, vast. I actually rather enjoyed Signs and it seems everyone tell that to thinks I am nuts.

And RTF is dead on about Giamatti. Dude is versatile enough to work in a number of genres and he likes to keep the paychecks coming. You can't blame him for that since the window of opportunity in film tends to be very short except for a select few.

I liked 'Signs' except for the water thing. Why in the universe would someone attack a planet where 66% of the surface was covered with something poisonous to their species? Shymalan could have changed the "vulnerability to water" bit to "vulnerability to grape soda" and it would have made more sense.

Willis was also in Unbreakable. And Phoenix was definitely a star when the Village and Signs were made, thanks to Gladiator. But he's just a bad actor, so woopie-doo. Add him to "actors I can't stand" category. And Giamatti had a Grammy nomination for Cinderella Man, and what actor doesn't take tons of roles in lessor-known movies, especially when his career is just starting?
