I'm planning a trip for the end of June that will consist of this:


1. Stopping in Baltimore to see my buddy who plays for KC play the O's
2. Head up to Philadelphia (where my old roomate lives)
3. Take the bus to NY to see the Yanks play and visit the city
4. Hit up the Wilmington Blue Rocks on the way back (they are playing the Hillcats)


I really want to know what all I should do while in New York, as of right now I'll only have a day there but maybe I'll stretch it out...other than the game, I just want to make sure I go to China Town


Sooo any ideas would be great! I've never been to the big city before!

My shoret list but I am not a native:

- Staten Island ferry
- 9/11 Memorial
- Times Square

If you are fortunate enough to have time to take in one more game ... Yankee or Shea Stadium.

There is so much to do there that it is tough to get it all in. I might suggest one of the bus tours.

Having been there a couple times and assuming you're going to be in Manhattan:

1. Ground Zero/9-11 Memorial
2. Times Square
3. Empire State Building observation deck

If you go into Brooklyn, drop by Coney Island to ride the Cyclone.

The Blue Rocks are a great value, and one of the bigger minor league stadiums you will see anywhere.
Delaware has some entertainment options, and being such a small state, it's not a long drive to beaches,
shopping, or whatever.

As for Philly, feel free to PM me or any of the other Philly-area people here, and I'm sure we can come
up with many different options for entertainment.

BTW, depending on where your travels are taking you in NY (and for how long), I would definitely consider taking a train. If money is no issue, Amtrak goes right from 30th street station in Philly to NY. You can also take SEPTA's R7 line from Philly to Trenton, and switch to NJ Transit trains, which run right into Penn Station. Round trip mass transit would run about $50 or so, depending on time of day. Beats the traffic, tunnels, tolls, and gas, IMO.

I travel several times a month, on business, to New York, and I always take the train. If you take Amtrak the whole way, it should take no more than 90 minutes. The Septa/NJ Transit route takes longer (because of the stops), but I still would go that way. The NYC Bus Station is a nightmare to deal with. Penn Station, while extremely busy, is a lot nicer to go through.

Not familiar with the bus route you are talking about, so it's hard to compare. Last time I checked, the regional rail (AMTRAK) cost anywhere from $43 to $83 to go from Philly to NYC, depending on the time of day. There is the Acela Express service, but that is considerably more expensive. (Faster and nicer, for sure, but more expensive) I will say that if you plan on doing Amtrak, buy your tickets more than 2-3 days in advance, as the prices jump up the day before, and even more the day of departure.

have used NJ Transit in the past in and out of Lower Manhattan and had no issues to speak of.

except that time we plowed a guy on the tracks, but these things happen. Luckily we only sat for an hour or so while they pulled the big chunks out.

NJ Transit recently added brand new trains to the line that runs from Trenton to NYC. Double Decker cars that are quite nice to ride in.
