you are correct. We did switch show mid-way thru 1989 but I have no idea what they were anymore. I just remember barely getting the first one down, then switching to another one that I believe included "Mac the Knife".

"Swing Swing Swing" seems familiar as well. But I'm getting old. And easily confused.

I saw some of bigsmooth's pics of the latest work on the new dorms and there was a bit of the band practice field in one of the shots. It got me to thinking...with these new dorms, is the band gonna have to relocate again or will we have our same practice spot again?

Well come mid August, I would say that you guys are screwed... I can't imagine them making people move there cars somewhere else and then making them walk a ways just to get to there dorm...

still think its a shame that the old turf can't be used for the band- I know its not doable, but it'd be great if they could throw that down somewhere, even just over gravel or something.

SJ, Never underestimate the power of the band!!

Back in '97 they redid the turf and we had nowhere to practice b/c the football team was then using the practice field.

During Band Camp, they put football lines on the baseball field and practiced there. Then later, we didn't have a field...so the entire band went to Dr. Borek's office, and our drum major said...we really need a field...(they were having some kind of meeting...had to be embarassing for him...I don't know how we got in other than we just went in past everyone in mass).

Later that week, they made arangements for us to practice at Heritage High School.

So there's the story...they'll put the band somewhere...for camp, probably the baseball field...but then where after that? I don't know.

Whoops...I'm sorry SJ...I know you are cool with the band...

I was responding to givemethemike, who said "Well come mid August, I would say that you guys are screwed... "...

I should've said, "Givemethemike, never underestimate the power of the band..."

Hey...I gave blood two days ago and had VBS today...I'm tired and not thinking straight!! I was thinking givemethemike but typed "SJ"...

Its all good, though!

That is pretty likely, although again, Dr Kerr is probably working with the facilities people at the school to work out something. With the band camp information and reply cards arriving last week and into this week, we should start getting more information about the fall beyond the show information that cdbilton posted last month

Since the band's going down, I wonder if that means we can get buses cheaper for students to go since we'd be getting a large amount of buses.

No, by cheaper I'm talking not 30-35 bucks a person. Not many students can afford that.

http://www.coastal.edu/spirit/calendar.html

Scroll down under October, it says "Liberty Band Will Attend"

I dunno about getting cheaper buses, Jon...I would say to get in touch with the band and see if you can work it out with them, but from what I've read here, their band directors have chosen not to announce this trip yet.

Glad to hear that the second trip will be to Myrtle Beach again. Too bad I graduated, and had to turn in my mallets and bass drum last fall. After playing at CCU two years ago, I was hoping that some sort of relationship could be established between the two bands. Back home in Massachusetts, the UMASS band and the Delaware band are very friendly, and always make the trips to the games against each other. Last year, they were in Delaware, and played over two hours of music for each other following the game.
I know that Dr. Kerr was trying to keep this trip a secret, and had been hoping to play at an NFL halftime, but nothing ever panned out. Guess they'll have to "settle" for Myrtle Beach

NFL halftimes are hard to get gigs for. We tried to play halftime at a Carolina Panthers game a couple years ago...the Panthers basically never returned our phone call. LOL

But a group of my friends and I are supposed to be forming a group to play the National Anthem before a couple of Panthers home games this year. If that pans out...it'll be beyond awesome, especially since I love the Panthers!

LU band did the Cowboys/Giants game at the Meadowlands a few (16?) years back. THAT was a blast. Best performance all year, I think.

And I, being the obnoxious person that I am, bought a Washington Redskins hat at the concession stand and wore it for most of the second half.

new Band alumni site/message board:

http://lubandos.proboards105.com/index.cgi

run by a "Monica" who I can't place- she may have been after my time. I really don't recognize anyone on there, but its relatively new.

check it out

They also did the Falcons-Giants game in 2002. That years band actually was what got me interested in joining the band in 2003

Dr. Kerr has subtly announced the trip to Myrtle Beach via our band website, www.liberty.edu/band, under the 2006 Schedule. We are hoping to add some more color and content to the site over the course of the next few weeks, and then throughout the semester with more pictures and possibly videos. I know that Dr. Kerr was looking for a band photographer and videographer outside the band for the upcoming semester. Should be a great year. Last I heard, we received the show score from the arranger, and were in the process of making revisions, and Dr. Super was going to get to the drum book once the score was finalized. Drumline and colorguard camp starts in just over three weeks, and I can't wait to see the band practice and perform this year. Drumline should be even tighter than last year, with this year's drum captian being very discipline-oriented, and very good (he was, unfortunately, the last snare cut from the Boston Crusaders' line for this summer), and we have new guard instructor, and a larger band enrollment overall. The only question reamins how long (if at all) we'll be able to practice on East Campus.
