Coach Rocco happened to wear his for the Flames Club luncheon today. They're absolutely amazing.

Got to see Broggin working with the first team tonight, and also saw a few two tight end plays tonight with Quarles and Rasberry.

I did. I watched Drake and Shipps practicing and Drake actually hit one from 50 and Shipps hit a couple from 40+ and even on the misses between 40 and 50 both of them had enough leg to maybe go for upper 50s. One thing I didnt see tonight is one of our top receivers but the reasoning for that isnt a matter of public record (i.e. they wouldnt be able to tell me anyway since I cant mention potentially controversial things in my blog). Spencer Landis has a cannon for a right arm. They were working 7-on-7 and he threw a bullet to one of the second team receivers for what would be a TD. I think that its going to be interesting seeing him and Mike Brown battling for the #1 spot in 09.

I watched a lot more...I just put the emphasis on the kickers for my blog tonight. Broggin looked pretty good with the first team tonight. I think that other than the thing with Bolden not at practice tonight things are starting to take shape as far as who will be first, second and third team going into the summer

I will add one other thing...With the spring game a week from Saturday, itll be interesting to see who we end up naming as captains for 08. I really think that Rashad will be one and Mike Godsil as well for the offense. I think Hursky will be one for the defense. I also wouldnt be surprised to see Pat Calvary be named one.

No worries our great SID staff has got you covered... But some bad news on the O-line side of things..
Two Flames did not participate in practice Thursday due to injuries that occurred two nights ago. Sophomore right guard Alex Stadler strained his MCL, while redshirt senior left tackle Zach Davis suffered a broken foot. Both players will likely remain on the shelf for six to eight weeks.

Unlike previous sessions, temperatures remained in the middle to upper 60’s. Rather than donning his traditional winter weather stocking cap, coach Rocco sported shorts, a light Liberty football jacket, and a ball cap Thursday night.

Well I think its better that these guys are injured like this during the spring instead of during the fall. (As a side note, Im very limited in what I can and cannot write about at the request of the SIDs so I have to try to be informative in my observations and still stay away from certain issues and areas)

Did they seriously tell you not to write about certain things? That's absurd.

They just don't tell him information about why or why not someone is playing. He can write about whatever he wants.

oh, so they're just limiting what they tell him about. His quote above made is sounding like they didn't want him blogging his own personal observations except for what they give permission for.

I'll have a story on the o-line in tomorrow's fishwrap. I'm wondering if Spencer Hodges and Doncel Bolt are still doing burpees after last night's fracas ...

Practice is open to anyone so he can write whatever he wants. The SIDs just aren't going to give him anymore information than they have to. He's not a member of the media.

Jon is spot on with what he said. I dont get to find out the kind of stuff that Chris Lang and DC and all them find out. Im just writing this as a personal project so the real in depth stuff like why guys arent at practice and other stuff like that isnt stuff they can tell me.

On a different note, there are a few guys who were not with the team last year at an assortment of positions that were not as big as the transfers that were mentioned on signing day and I know at least one of them that could very well be a big contributor in 08.

Hodges and Bolt started brawling during a live red-zone drill. Things were definitely physical last night, and I don't think Danny was all that happy about it.

FYI, the o-line story is pushed back to Sunday for space reasons.

Not a great practice, I gather from Mr. Cranky Pants Center. Hopefully they got it out of our system before Sat.

Did you really just call Mike "Mr. Cranky Pants Center?" That's just funny.

In our post practice conversation, he was ticked off at how they practiced tonight. Mistakes resulting from a lack of focus, ball handling issues, assignment miscues, etc. When Coach Rocco is disappointed, it makes a big impact upon his players. On the positive side, 13 out of 14 have been pretty good. It is just he wants the team to finish spring ball well as it carries into the next phase: the preseason. This team has high expectations of themselves.

That is a pretty far cry from where this program has been even in my many years on the mountain. Hopefully with today being a light day they can get back on track mentally and have a great spring game on Saturday.
