nba and ncaa are going to be making a major announcement at a joint press conference on Monday at 2 pm. speculation is that they are raising the NBA age limit from 19 to 20

Players get 2 years in NCAA...good for coaches, fans and player development.

It also helps the NBA because it takes away more of the "guessing" when drafting high school players.

Players get hosed, because they have to wait 2 years for their guaranteed money.

Good thing the govt doesnt tell these child prodigy's that they are to young to help them with things that their older employees would never be able to do.




I highly doubt this would effect these kids for this upcoming draft though. It would have to start next year

They would never be able to enforce the rule for this year. Why? Three freshman (Eric Gordon, Jerryd Bayless, and Eric Gordon) have already declared that are going to hire an agent, therefore making them ineligible to return to college...

Indiana would be better without Gordon anyways, him and a bunch of his teammates showed their merit by quitting on Dakich and Indiana once Sampson was fired or whatever you want to call what happened to him.

Yeah...there's no way to enforce it this year. Is there not a couple of years left on the current CBA? I would not think they would be able to change things up until the next contract in a couple of years.

I think it's kind of funny that in every article that's ever talked about raising the age limit that it says mostly all college coaches agree with it. Why the heck wouldn't they? Who wouldn't want to have someone like Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose for 2 years as opposed to just one year? You'd have to be an idiot to now want them as long as you possibly could.

All he has to do is pass six credit hours and he's eligible to play the second semester. Since he's not coming back for his sophomore year, he doesn't even have to go to class after Christmas.

What this will do, in essence, is make kids DUMBER -- because it'll create a market for dumb classes like they had at Georgia a few years ago, where the questions on the final exam are brain-busters such as "how many points is a three-pointer worth?"... just so the kids can get a few extra credits.

I can see your point, and that's why I like the three year rule that football and baseball have. That way, to play their junior year, they're at least required to finish a percentage of their major.

I think college basketball should be exactly like college baseball. You can be drafted out of high school. If you decide to go pro, good luck. However, if you don't go where you expected to, or don't get drafted, you can still go to college. The catch is, once you step foot on campus, you are there for three years. This would allow the kids that get bad information out of high school to not completely ruin their lives. It also brings NBA teams to decide do they take a chance on a kid burning them, or go for the sure thing? I love the way baseball does that. It gives the kids an opportunity to go pro and capitalize on their unique skill set but doesn't kill them if they get burned.

see when i searched for this online when this thread first started, an article came up about this initiative from a few months ago....nothing about the age limit change.....so no real surprise....

ps...the nba is far from lame this season....

Play in the league, You can always go to school but if you blow your leg out then you cant play professionally. I dont care if a kid is 12 and wants to drop out of school and play in the league, If youre good enough thats your choice to make. and You could say that some guys arent ready and they end up sucking, well thats their fault for thinking they were ready.

That's exactly what I think. However, I think it through more than you. I think they should be able to be drafted out of high school and then have the choice to go to school or go to the league. That way, the random high school player each year who thinks he's going to be a star but doesn't get drafted can still go to school and not be screwed out of being a student-athlete. That's how it is in baseball.

Well if thats the case than Johnny Hill (random name) can put his name in that draft, doesnt like where he was placed and doesnt get the money he wants so he can go to college... Youre giving him a cop out if he doesnt get what he wants... I like the idea but it then becomes a bargaining tool
