It's not a big deal up there. Just another I-AA opponent - a fun 62-14 win, maybe

I hope we do better than what Coach Sam's team did against Marshall several years ago, 63-3 in Huntington, WV.
I was on that team - 1999. Man, did we come out of that one black & blue.

Exactly, I'm worried about a young team in '09 getting beat up. Hopefully we play Iona the following week to give the guys an extra week to recoup.

Some will be young, but we'll still have a lot of experience as well. A lot of underclassmen look very good this spring. They may not start in the fall, but we're deep at most positions.

Jon's right on that one...we have a number of guys who could step up all over the field right now and certainly will in 09 to fill in a lot of the gaps that will be created with the guys graduating.

It might also have to do with some other thing,s such as throwing a 44-gallon trash can at an assistant coach (Miami, '97), student section hurling oranges at opposing players and bench (Syracuse, '98 ), or surrounding and rocking an ambulance attempting to take an opposing injured player to the hospital (Miami, '95).

Couch burning was VTech in '03. Something like 40+ street arrests were made on Grant Avenue by the fire department (some handcuffed to a utility pole and called in to police for pick-up).
Ok, look who we're talking about: Miami, Syracuse, Miami, Va Tech, Liberty.

Who doesn't fit?
I know, I know.

At least we can't complain about the quality of the schedule like some of us including myself used too. One way or another its going to be a fun ride.

Are you serious? The Lehigh deal was cancelled over a year ago.

The WVU-Liberty game have finally made the West Virginia newspapers, and our KK is quoted extensively in the Charleston paper:
Liberty will replace another Division I-AA team, Villanova, which will be this year's season-opening opponent for WVU. The Wildcats, who compete in Big East Conference basketball but not football, will visit Mountaineer Field on Aug. 30.

"This is a one-year deal," said Kevin Keys, who is Liberty's assistant athletic director for external affairs.

Fragale said WVU will pay Liberty $365,000 for the one-game contract.

"Obviously, schools like us do this for the payday," said Keys, whose school is located in Lynchburg, Va. "But we try to find bigger schools to play so we can get bigger paydays and not have to do it every year.

"We played Wake Forest in 2006 and will play them again in 2012. In 2005, we played Connecticut and last year, we played Toledo from the Mid-American Conference. In 2011, we are going to play Virginia."

Keys is a former sports publications director for WVU.

Couple interesting things.....As reported the news broke in the Charleston papers recently about the game, and they have a thread up on www.bluegoldnews.com ..... they can be jerks, but they should be pretty nice to you as long as your careful....they are in a good mood about it right now, I just chimed into the discussion and let them know a little about us, and noticed that somewhere along the line in the discussion somebody mentioned our co-eds were "fugly", that claim was immediately disputed by several people who then spoke of how "hot" the LU girls are, which I gladly chimed in, however they are now asking for pictures of "the girls of LU" since multiple posters on that site have claimed that we've got some lookers. HAHA. Anyone who wants to defend us feel free to head over to the board and support us, ha.

I'm glad Keys said we're just doing this for a payday, he made it seem as if we're just going up there and hoping to get out alive.

I'm telling ya, we got paid for that Marshall game in '99, but it was an expensive butt-whoopin'. Back then, the Hancock had "power lifts" set up downstairs & machines upstairs. If you were injured, you worked out on the machines. After that game, I'd say about 70% of the team was lifting upstairs the next week. This one kid had a bruise that started around his shoulder blade & went all the way down to his hip bone. It was nasty.

I was at that LU-MU game in '99, as a 13 year old having no clue I would end up at LU, small world. Anyway that was a whoopin' for sure, that was about the worst possible year for LU to play Marshall because they went 13-0 and finished ranked 10th in the country. That team was for real. Pennington, Doug Chapman, 2 WR's, at least 2 offensive linemen and several defensive players all went onto NFL careers. This game was also Byron Leftwich's debut as he came off the bench to lead a TD drive late, if my memory serves me correct. Another little tidbit, Marshall also beat Clemson and QB Brandon Streeter that year at Death Valley, the same Brandon Streeter on our staff.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
