Chuck Norris LU Graduation Speaker

A famous face will visit Lynchburg soon. Actor Chuck Norris is scheduled to give the commencement speech at Liberty University (web) in May. Jerry Falwell, Jr. made the announcement Wednesday morning. Norris spent much of the last several months campaigning for Mike Huckabee, whom Falwell had endorsed for President. Norris has starred in many movies and shows, including "Walker, Texas Ranger."

There is a name for those kinds of books, LUconn: we call them autobiographies. :P

Have to admit it too - Would not be happy to have Norris speak at mine either - Chuck Norris? Is he really that academic? Billy Graham, Clarence Thomas, Ed Meese, George Bush, Dora, Chuck Norris...who's next Bruce Lee?

meh, celebs are all the rage as speakers. Bill Cosby speaks, or should I say rants, at some schools graduation every year. I mean we had Hannity 2 years ago. That's kinda lame. Norris is pretty trendy right now, but he's got the career longevity that he won't be a barbwire tattoo on your bicep in 2 years.

I said the same thing on Facebook: why does the speaker have to be academic? Graduation is a time to celebrate all of the time that we've worked hard in the classroom and on our academics, and why shouldn't it be fun? Schools around the country get famous celebrities all of the time who can present a message in a less than academic way. High Point had Bill Cosby last year and it was great. More people remembered what Cosby said than when some great politician or academic person came in. The man is a Christian, is a celebrity, and the book he wrote was actually pretty well-written and well-received. Your chancellor can have fun with things, and knows that kids would rather hear someone like Chuck Norris than a 70-year old politician. Why can't you? I don't mean that in a hostile way, just asking.

Dorks have to wait until tomorrow to print it because they forgot how to put it on the web, so as Henrygale already said the big 13 ALREADY did the story! Don't wait for the fishwrap and get ink on your paws.

I agree with this 100%, and everybody I have talked to seems excited about it....but my wife said a bunch of people in one of her classes were complaining about it because Chuck Norris has no credibility, whatever the heck that means....College's and Universities around the country get celebs to come in...why not have someone like Chuck Norris come in?? its not going to hurt anything, and I am sure he will give a fine address....some people are just a little uptight about this kind of thing in my opinion...I am sure most seniors are happy about this...I know that this one is

Actually the article is already up.
Six-time world karate champion, movie and television star and Internet phenomenon Chuck Norris is coming to Lynchburg May 10 as Liberty University’s commencement speaker.

“He’s a strong Christian, he’s a strong conservative, and he’s honored to be coming to Liberty University,” Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. announced at the school’s Wednesday-morning convocation service. “We’re honored to have him.”

Personally I think graduation is stupid. Only think I remember about it was that the stupidw gown thing was hot and taht I left as soon as the ceremony was over. I never wanted to go to HS, College, or Grad School graduation but when your mother, who is an expert nagger, nags at you to go 24/7 for three weeks you reach a breaking point.

A square is not a rectangle. A square and a rectangle are both Parrallelagrams and quadralaterals. I get what you mean though.

a parallelogram having four right angles.

A four-sided plane figure with four right angles.

a two-dimensional, four-sided figure with opposite sides equal and all its angles right angles

A four-sided plane figure with four right angles

A square fits the bill for all of those.

I TOTALLY agree with some about graduation speakers. I can't even remember my graduation speaker (2000). He did a good job, but I heard guys like him 20 times a year in convocation, Super Conference, or at TRBC. IMO I would rather hear a guy like Hannity, Norris, Cosby, Conan Obrien (that would be cool!), etc. than hear a guy that will be at a convocation or at TRBC again in the near future.

Great choice for a speaker IMO. Although I have already heard a bunch of complaining about it. It is weird because opinions are either hot or cold about Norris speaking at commencement. Either they are REALLY excited or they are REALLY disappointed. Unfortunately Christy Brinkley will not be attending with him!! (I can't believe how good she still looks in those infomercials with Chuck. When I was about 7 years old, she was the queen of the models!)

Yes but you said a square is a rectangle. It is not. A square by definition has 4 equal sides. A rectangle by definition has 2 opposite equal sides and 2 other opposite equal sides of different length. A square has 4 equal sides a rectangle has 2. Therefore they are both Parrallograms and quadralatterals but not the same as each other.
