Hoosiers to finish season without Sampson

Bloomington - Indiana University is making plans to finish the basketball season without Kelvin Sampson. The coach of the Hoosiers is not expected to be with the team when they play at Northwestern Saturday.

Personally, I blame Delilah...

Interesting. He's not actually fired yet, just "not with the team".

Isn't this guy a serial offender? I think I heard he's violated NCAA recruiting rules in the past.

No mention of Coach Meyer in the article...

Coach Meyer was named in 2 of the 5 allegations but lately no one is using his name in all of this which is a good thing. He should be able to finish the season with the other coaches...PS I was told this was going to happen back in November by some other folks I know in Indiana but I didn't talk about it. When it didn't happen I thought everything was going to be fine. Jeff will probably be looking for a job in the off season though even if he is allowe to finish. IMO he should look at getting a mid major head job....Yes I am really glad I took my trip to Indiana when I did! It may have been the most fun I have ever had in a basketball arena other than....The Dunk or calling games for Flames Television on MASN!

Jeff certainly deserves a shot at a mid-major program.

I dont look for JM's name to be mentioned to much even if he is still involved. KS is the name people recognize but JM is in some hot water as well.

I'd be willing to bet that JM wishes he knew KS better before accepting the job (after it was offered to him during the Final Four in '06.) With all this that has happened, my gut tells me that he was simply told after he began working with KS that this was the way things would be done by his staff members. THAT, imo, is why he's being mentioned less and less.

If those seniors aren't careful, they will ruin their own senior year and their alma mater all at the same time. Indiana is trying to save it's program, and it is not going to let the threat of some players (especially seniors) alter their attempt to smooth things over with the NCAA. The University will be punished, no doubt, but they don't want to be given a death sentence for the next few years. The NCAA probably has enough evidence against Indiana, that it could shut down the program for a long time (shut down meaning any of the following: significant scholarships taken away, no post season for a few years, etc.) Someone better help these players understand that they are talking about fighting a battle they will lose and they will look like the bad guys along with Sampson.

I can't imagine that Indiana will let threats by players with misguided loyalties sway their decision for a moment. If I'm not mistaken, most of their better players are underclassmen anyway, so who cares?

I thought this was a thread about RALPH sampson!

I did notice in just about every article they talk about Dakich (Bowling Green and West Va for a week) and Ray McCallum (Ball State and nice guy) as the coaches on staff who have head coaching experience. I am suprised that the one with the NCAA appearance isn't mentioned But I also think it is a good thing. Best to keep flying under the radar.
Not sure what JM's fate will be. I would say on the bad side they would tell him you can finish the year and we will help you find another spot. On the good side they will say Good job with that Gordon fellow, here is your slap on the wrist, turn in your keys to the T shirt room and sin no more

McCallum is a nice guy but he was a disaster at UH as head coach.

I have seen no indication that Jeff was shown the door. It appears he may have survived.

I watched a news conf on ESPN @ 9 PM tonite saying Sampson was gone and Dakich (sp?) had taken over.

Sampson would not sue for wrongful termination and would recieve the very nice parting gift.

no word on Jeff

I found it interesting that 3 coach's were mentioned by name yet only two of them they kept talking about. There was also a comment that I found interesting "these two coach's are not currently involved in the NCAA investigation"

Jeff is still on staff though, we'll see for how long, they refused to mention his name to much though. It may be a finish out the year basis.
