There is a comment on the situation from Barber in today's paper, and of course, it didn't make it to the web. I got hold of him last night. And Sly is correct. The Advocate exercised its right to request information through the Freedom of Information Act and got the list of applicants. Unfortunately for me, when it comes to Liberty, FOIA is mostly useless, because Liberty is a private school. But Barber responded rather quickly to me last night, so I don't really think he's ducking anything.

Sly gets the X-lax Smooth Move Award for even finding this stuff and posting it. Think of all the angst you could have prevented by keeping this one to yourself.

It would have been posted, it was just a matter of time. In fact, grm posted it a little while ago in the Lunatic Locker.

Ummmm....I definitely want to stay here & continue what I do with LU. However, my family comes first, before my job, & if there were another company that offered me an opportunity to better my family, I would look into.

I like the quote from Dwight. It's my signature in my emails here.
"Would I ever leave this company? Look, I'm all about loyalty. In fact, I feel like part of what I'm being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly, I'm going wherever they value loyalty the most."

While I agree with you Bl it's also important to keep into consideration that those in Administrative levels at Liberty are making several hundred thousand dollars. So if I'm working at Liberty making $200k a year, I think I can survive in Lynchburg on that, if not maybe I need to think about a budget.

Let me also say this Bl, this is one of Liberty's downfalls. They pay those in top positions very well although the starting positions are very low. I wish others in lower positions would not have to look at better options to survive.

If he was making what our previous AD was making then I agree that he should be looking elsewhere because it is hard to set yourself up for life on that salary.

No truer statement has ever been posted on FF.

However, it is my understanding that the Chancellor is looking to correct that situation for those of us that are not at the executive level. If this is true, I give him 5 out of 5.

Yea, I read about it in Lang's article at about 5:30 this morning, even before I saw it on FF. Lang had a quote in there about JB's lawyer and how both LU and LSU were "great schools".

Here's a link to the LSU message board (lots of comedians over there, but no mention of JB): http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/Mess ... 65539&Pg=1

Can someone quote the article, for those of us out-of-towners?

One other point I'll make here. It's possible (I assume) for the AD at Liberty to be set for life. At LSU, it's possible that the AD's kids can be set for life as well.

The problem is, if it goes south for the AD at LSU...one of them cajuns might TAKE his life.

All I was trying to say was that I completely understand whatever it is that he's trying to do and have no problem with it. I've said that a few times. Business is business and this happens all the time at schools across the country. I just think that he should be more careful throwing around emotional quotes confirming your commitment to the "idea" of this porgam at an emotional time in the school's history. It makes you look disingenuous when you're trying to move on less than a year later. When he doesn't get this job, I'll love that we get to keep him.

We need to hire people with no ambition.

LU has and will find the right person for each position. There will be someone that buy's into what LU has to offer. Brant Tolsma to me has a alot of ambition and is highly successful and yet he is perfectly happy here. It can and has happened even with those with ambition.

To some it is quite ambitious to live in a fairly large city in the top 10% and have your children grow up in one of the leading Christian communities in the country.

I think he was talking about Barber and his family being in the top 10% of Lynchburg's most affluent.

Thank you, the statement made sense if it would just been read. His income places him in the top 10% in this city. It even allows you to invest in area properties and so forth while if you were living in LSU territory making 3 times the amount you were making here you would not have those same opportunities.

Actually, cost of living between Lynchurg/Roanoke and Baton Rouge is very similar. Baton Rouge is around 3% more expensive to live in.
