I can honestly say that I've never heard what happened tonight to HPU before. There were lots of reason why HPU should and shouldn't have won this game, but what happened at the end of the HPU/CCU game is a disgrace and the league should be embarressed.
Let me just say first that I didn't get to see the game only heard it on the radio broadcast.
You guys had your own game so let me break it down for you. High Point gave up a lay-up with 3 seconds to go to give CCU a one point lead. High Point inbounds the ball to Mike Jefferson who raced down the court, goes up for a lay-up, a foul is called appearing to sound just before the buzzer goes off. The officials call it a shooting foul. The officials than met and walked over to the official scorer (A man not associated with the officials but with Coastal Carolina University) After a meeting with this man the officials overturned the call made on the court and ruled game over. I wasn't there and couldn't see whether or not the foul was before the whistle. The problem I have is that these officials allowed a paid employee of one of the two teams involved directly effect the outcome of a very important game. This man had no evidence only his opinion of what happened and somehow the ref's thought his opinion was more important than the ref who made the original call. Lundy was of course irate and I'm sure there will be some sort of letter going to the league about this incident. I'm bias towards HPU, I was just wondering what you guys think about this situation. Should someone like the official scorekeeper be able to make such decisions?
