President Abe wrote:Its not as good as Liberty University. I think instead all Presidents should be elected based on their name. For instance, how could you elect a guy named President Barak? That's ridiculous. Now President Lincoln Abraham, that was a president, with a good name too.
President Lincoln Abraham??

James Dobson came out today and said he couldn't vote for McCain with a good conscience.

You could abolish the electoral college, for starters.
except for the fact that our country was founded as a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC, NOT A TRUE DEMOCRACY

c'mon, now. That mindset works only if you're part of the mindless majority. The Gore camp would never have bought into this tripe if THEY had won the electoral college over Dubya, regardless of the popular vote.

Funny how end results change one's perspective.

Also the fact that in a direct election (popular vote) California would be worth more to a president than the bottom 22 states would really strip the little states of the little power they now have. If we abolish the electoral college, we come much closer to becoming the United "State" of America. Can you imagine how much more influence New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philly, Detroit, etc. would have on who runs/gets elected for president?

Even though the electoral college gives more voice to smaller states, everyone has the same opportunity to move to those states if they want a louder voice.

Agreed.

If you abolish the electoral college, just go ahead and eliminate the SENATE as well: since that is comprised of equal members for each state.

The House of Representatives could be the governing agency (more populated states get more votes) , and the Speaker of the House could be the "Premier" of the USSA. The masses could then make all the decions for the good of the common man.

Sounds great, eh comrades?

If you people don't vote for someone, how can you complain about the person who wins?

Can someone explain all the hate towards McCain to me??? I am not the biggest fan of his, but if he gets the nomination I think I will probably vote for him....there are a couple other republican candidates that seem much more shady then McCain does...

it's pretty easy. If you don't find any candidate acceptable to vote for, how could you not complain?

But I didn't say I wasn't going to vote.

He's not conservative in most areas.

The guy is about as liberal as your average Democrat. Has a history of voting against the Republicans. Has created VERY poorly written legislation with his name boldly on it with other very liberal Democrats, are just a few things that scare me about him. If we are going to get a liberal leaning politician, let a democrat have it so that when it falls apart, we can blame them.

I don't think I'm going to vote for a guy that doesn't hold true conservative values and has a history of leaning with the liberals. I could see McCain even screwing up nominating a Supreme Court Justice by trying to find a moderate judge. I'm looking for a third party alternative if McCain gets the nomination. Of course, I could change my mind if Hillary wins the Democrat nomination.

Again, helps us Obi Wan Romney, you're our only hope!

I don't trust Romney....call it a hunch...I will never, ever vote for Romney...

I think McCain is getting a much worse rap on here then he should...he is a bit more liberal then some...but the same thing can be said of Huckabee really...this is why I am having a hard time with republicans and no longer associate myself with them...

simple...look at all the candidates running...if you can't vote for any of them and personally feel good about it then why do so?? I am not saying I'm going to do that, but I can respect someone that comes to that conclusion....again if people get out of this two party mind set then I think we would be much better off in the long run....

Yeah, I don't trust Huckabee at all. I like Romney. He has done well in the private sector and seems to have changed his mind about abortion. I am not giddy about him, but he has shown that he believes in the core values of the conservative movement. He speaks very clearly about his beliefs IMO.

Outside of the "hunch", why would you not vote for Romney? (I'm just curious)

One of the most anti 1st ammendment bills ever passed has his name attached to it. Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 aka McCain–Feingold.

You'd also be abolishing the last functioning vestige of the Constitution it seems.

Not voting for someone because you don't trust them based on nothing but a hunch. Kind of like the logic of not voting for McCain because supposedly he has a temper.

logical or not...when a guy speaks and i just don't think he even believes what he is saying I find it hard to support that kind of a person....and thats how I feel about Romney....

Let's face it. Conservatives are completely screwed this time around.
I say, bring on Hillary. At the very least, she's a divisive enough figure that she's going to have a hard time carrying out her agenda.
