So I was checking my email and apparently our discussion has garnered the attention of the Center4ME:

This morning I read through two pages of posts regarding LU's Black History Month (BHM) calendar. Well, it started out about the BHM calendar, but ended and still continues as an argument over whether racism still exists in America/Liberty/LCA. I am not giving all of the posts their justice, but I came back to the original question of this thread/forum..."Is Liberty embracing Malcolm X?". For those of you who have not seen the BHM calendar there is a picture of Malcolm X (along with 14 other historical figures) and one of the BHM events is Civil Rights Week, in which on the last day there will be a discussion of Malcolm X and what he did in the area of civil rights. Now, I am just going to ask another question in response to the original post - "Is Liberty embracing education?". And the answer is emphatically YES, we are an institution of higher education and it should be the expectation of all students (and alumni) to be exposed to historical matters. Lively discussions that will further help us understand and get along with one another in the common bond of Christ is always the goal in the Center4ME.

Isn't that the same argument Columbia did when they invited Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak? Because it was in the best interests of "education"?

I feel funny when we're shown evidence that people read this besides us.

Actually, Melany's response was exactly what I was looking for...a reason WHY! Her response was very well thought out and much appreciated. A lively discussion on educational grounds is good for the students...just as it is good for us when these topics occasionally come up. As the university expands, discourse of this nature is, well...educational.

I am definitely satisfied in her response and I appreciate any faculty or staff member who straightens us out.

LU Forum Discusses What it’s Like Being Black

posted 10:15 pm Fri February 01, 2008 - Lynchburg, VA

Students, staff and faculty at Liberty University got a chance to hear what it's like "Being Black at Liberty". The Center for Multicultural Enrichment organized a forum of former Liberty graduates to share their school daze with a diverse audience.

And it appears WSET has fallen suit behind the fishwrap with a section for comments. See for yourselves.

Oh, come on! Who wrote that lead-in line? Aside from the reference to an incoherent Spike Lee movie, it's more than a little disappointing that the hometown station would treat the subject as if black people are something like a carnival sideshow oddity at LU.
