Exactly. I know that she's an ESPN employee but it wasn't said in front of the general public but at a private ceremony.
So? Are you saying that Michael Vick shouldn't be suspended by the NFL for his role in a dogfighting gambling ring? He didn't commit the felony while on the field... I'm pretty sure those dogfights were roped off to the public and were 'private ceremonies', too.
Come on now...that is a completely different issue. She has a right to free speech. He was committing a felony. Slightly different story. :guntohead

That's crap. She doesn't have a responsibility to be professional at a friggin' roast. Roasts are, by their very nature, as completely unprofessional as you can get. As for your being offended, if ESPN hadn't announced that she was suspended, you wouldn't even know about it.

Trying to discern your point here. Are you saying that they are not "roast-worthy" ??

i understood it to mean that the 2 aren't interesting, important, or good enough at their jobs to get the priviledge to be roasted....

I apologize for attending chapel and going out to eat for lunch. I did not realize that I had a time limit to respond to posts without being chastised.

Anyone in the TV business (and Sly Fox should know this) knows that when you sign up as talent for a station, you are signing your image, too. Many places have contracts that dictate what you can and cannot do with things as trivial as your hair (no surprise style-changes!).

In this case, her comments did damage to her image (and if you don't think that it was nothing to be offended over, if she said "F*** Mohammed!", there would be rioting in the streets of Pakistan). ESPN, who as her employer, has control of her image, said that her comments are something that they don't condone.

As an anchor, she is an emissary for her company. And thus, she needs to be held accountable for actions unbecoming someone with that responsibility.

If something offensive is said in a semi-private setting it shouldn't become public knowledge. If somebody made an off-color remark at a meeting at LU, would it be right for the media to jump on the story? I know that they would take it and run with it, but would that make it right? Have you ever seen any of the roasts on Comedy Central? Her remarks seem tame compared to some things I've heard from Sarah Silverman and Lisa Lampanelli.
You can call it private, but they were advertising the thing for weeks on their not-so-private radio show. And it was, by all accounts, a company-run event, so the company does take on the responsibility for what happens at its own events.

Not exactly. I heard about it when a Catholic group started complaining that no action was taken against her, before the suspension.

ESPN replied to my email saying they were sorry for her total lack of professionalism, and that she was way out of line. I guess someone there cares about the image of the employees.

Forgiven. Mainly, b/c that makes no sense and I don't want to take the time to decipher it.

That's understood if you're on the air, out in public or even just walking down the street. However, it was a friggin' roast. I'm not sure that ESPN even understands what that is because, if this is their reaction to comments made at a friggin' roast, they have no business putting on a friggin' roast.

What? Just an apology? They didn't send you a cookie? Not even a little cheese for that whine?

#1 -- I was away from the computer for an hour when you said "paging Ed Dantes."

#2 -- Whatever. Still, I'm pretty sure it wasn't Jesus being roasted at the roast. If it was Don Imus at a roast saying F*** Martin Luther King... I'm sure we wouldn't hear the end of it from Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton.

As it stands, she was punished, rightfully, and will return to air one of these days. And that's the end of it.

At least I'm willing to voice my opion to the source and not just on FF message board. I'm sure Jesus thought it was real funny because it was "just a roast". If more Christians would grow a back bone and stand up for our Lord and Saviour, instead of defending the world view, we might get more respect.

You didn't actually read my "paging" post, then.

I don't think Jesus gave a crap about what she said one way or the other. I'm fairly certain he heard people say a lot of worse things to him when he was walking around here on earth. As for respect, I don't know why in the world you would think that getting offended over silly petty insults would buy Christians any respect. If anything, it makes us look like a bunch of middle-school age girls. So, thanks for that, scuz.

I'm about as liberal as a Christian as you can be (mainly b/c I'm young and dumb, and thats no excuse) but come on....He didnt care that she said that? If he didnt care she said that then He doesnt care about her. I mean did He leave her side when she walked into the doors of the Roast? I just dont get how you could think He doesnt care what she does...and maybe you didnt even mean it in that context b/c it would be a hard argument to sell if your a Christian (although Calvinist may actually come close to this theory but still not quite)

I get what your saying about being at a Roast....although it doesnt give the right to start saying whatever you want about someone....I mean you cant start talking about a plan to kill somebody or how your going to blow up a plane and believe me some people think thats funny (most with the name you cant pronounce non the less), there are limits

Every Roast is different....some for comedians and such that can get as dirty and raunchy as you want b/c thats what you expect, and then there are those that you have for a Disney employee where you better use good judgment or you'll be sorry, I remember one they had for my grandfather there were some things said that were a little edgy but all in all everyone used good judgment/censorship

Oh, come on. We're going down the theology trail now? OK, Elmer Jrs., tell me this. Why on earth would it matter to Jesus that Dana Jacobson said that? It didn't matter to Him that Matthew and Zaccheus were stealing from His people. It didn't matter to Him that Peter hacked some dude's ear off. It didn't matter to Him that Mary Magdalene was selling herself. It didn't matter to Him that Judas sold Him. I could go on but you get the picture. You're going to tell me that He's really that upset just because somebody dropped an F-bomb on Him? Please.
Honestly, if we're going to get our panties in a twist, let's save it for stuff that matters like -- oh, I don't know -- abortion or something.

It mattered to Jesus what those folks said and did, it matter enough that Jesus was willing to die for them, for there sins and transgressions.

Since we're now in Theology 101, let me just say that you're wrong. Christ didn't die to erase the individual sins of mankind. Christ died to erase the state of sin from mankind. Every man, woman and child is born in sin and that's what He came for. I'm certainly not saying He doesn't care about the individual but individual additional offenses don't add to the price He paid and, in the grand scheme, are completely irrelevant.
