Well, I am back. Things have been very crazy, and I just got around to registering. I missed this.

Anyway, is anyone interested in the slightest in the sweet science? I know the heavyweight division is weaker now than it has been since the 1880s, but there are a few good boxers there (Chris Byrd), and the lower classes have some simply fearsome prizefighters (Tarver, Hatton, Taylor). Also, 'Pretty Boy' Floyd Mayweather, Jr., many people's current pound-for-pound champ, is fighting former up-and-comer Zab Judah on pay-per-view this weekend, and on the 22nd, the IBF Heavyweight Championship is up for grabs as champ Chris Byrd defends against a much larger challenger, Wladimir Klitschko. Hopefully, this match will be the first step towards clearing up a very foggy weight class. Does anyone have any thoughts, or am I just a really, really wierd guy?

I love boxing. I have a hard time with all the weight division, but will sit down and watch two guys beat each other up on HBO. Klitchko "The Mayor" would have been a better draw, I think, but this match up is goig to be good. I won't shell out PPV money but will wait a week and see it on HBO. I have never understood why the Heavyweight division is always singled out? I would much rather watch some cruiser, middle and welterweight boxers go at it!! Micky Wark anyone? When boxers get flambouyant again, then interest will increase. Remember Ali took his PR skills straight from Pro Wrestling!

I know very little about boxing but that has never stopped me from giving an opinion! I did see the COUNTLESS promo's for Mayweather vs. Judah ("Sworn Enemies" or something?) but I'm not paying 50 bucks to watch it.

I've been a boxing fan since I was a kid. Like many I despise the busienss behind the sport. But that doesn't stop me from appreciating what the atheletes do.

I know several current world champs in the lower weight classes and as a result I follow them closely. Evander Holyfield & Raul Marquez are both training for "comeback" fights right now a couple blocks from my station.

Mayweather is an unbelievable fighter and I seriously doubt Judah at his now rather advanced age can stop him. But I admit I'd love to see this one.

Did anyone hear about what happened on pay-per-circus, er, I mean pay-per-view? Was that crazy or what? Maybe the trainers and cutmen should fight on the undercard. Oh, by the way, in case anyone actually cares, Mayweather ended up winning. And the Klitschko-Byrd slugfest will be on regular HBO, not PPV.

I saw the highlights of the fight and the stupidity at the end. Didn't Roger Mayweather get enough action back in the day when he was actually paid to fight?

I Found it on Wikipedia:

Boxing, nicknamed the "sport of kings" and also called pugilism or prizefighting, is a sport where two participants of similar weight attack each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called "rounds". In both Olympic and professional divisions, the combatants (called boxers or fighters) avoid their opponent's punches whilst trying to land punches of their own. Points are awarded for clean, solid blows to the legal area on the front of the opponent's body above the waistline, with hits to the head and torso being especially valuable. The fighter with the most points after the scheduled number of rounds is declared the winner. Victory may also be achieved if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to ten (a Knockout, or KO) or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue (a Technical Knockout, or TKO). For record keeping a TKO is a knockout or KO. You will see on boxers' records the mention only of "KO". The phrase "technical knockout" usually only appears in contemporaneous news articles.

Actually, Sly, it's 'Pretty Boy' Floyd Mayweather, Jr. And Roger would probably come out of retirement if he thought he could win the WBC jr. welterweight belt, as Floyd did against Judah.

If you saw what happened in the ring Zab delivered a cheapshot tot he back of Floyd Jr's head and Roger came out of the corner and into the ring and that's what began the melee.

Speaking of boxing, a couple of local guys announced some fight. Forer world champ Raul Marquez is coming out of retirement to fight some chump in a couple of weeks. And Rocky Juarez announced today he's fighting Marco Antonio Barrera at Staples Center in July. I love an excuse to work boxing into our sportscasts.

One: When they described the incident on Sportscenter, I did not grab Roger's name; I only heard them talk about what happened. I am sorry for any confusion this ignorance has caused.

Two: As much as I respect him and will be cheering for his legendary butt, I am not convinced that coming out of retirement is such a good thing for 'La Dinamita.' Still, I expect him to come close to commiting murder shortly. Joy.

Three: With all due respect, does Rocky have a death wish? I mean, seriously.

No, Rocky is just looking for a payday. The kid will probably get pummeled by Marco Antonio. But even thought Rocky fought for the US in the Olympics, he was born in Mexico and the idea of getting in the ring with one of his idols was a bigtime draw.

I only caught the highlights but it looked to be a dominating performance.

Now is when it gets interesting with talk of a showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Guess who Oscar's trainer is? Yep, the Floyd Mayweather Sr. that Junior unceremoniously dumped. Talk about your family feuds. Frankly, I doubt Oscar could handle Pretty Boy Floyd. But then again, I thought he was a fool to get in the ring with Mayorga.

That would've been cool to be a part of that if they had had one back in the day...I wonder if that is something that would have to be club in order to get going...
