The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

There was a article today in the N&A about next years schedule. Looks like will be playing in a tourney w/ Duke and another w/ Maryland. It mentioned Coach Green is having trouble getting teams to come to Lynchburg. No surprise there. VA Tech will be in town next year.

Another tough slate
Liberty’s non-conference women’s basketball schedule for the 2006-07 season is shaping up to be its toughest.
The Flames, who won 25 games with a roster loaded with freshmen and sophomores last season, could face both NCAA title game participants from a year ago.
Liberty will play in a pre-Christmas tournament in Cancun, Mexico, though LU coach Carey Green doesn’t know the Flames will play in the first round.
Duke, which lost to Maryland in the NCAA title game, is one possible opponent, as is Bowling Green, which won 28 games last year and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Others in the field are Pitts-burgh, East Carolina, Oral Rob-erts, SMU and Texas-Arlington.
The Flames also will play in a tournament at defending NCAA champion Maryland. Liberty will open against Marist Dec. 29; Maryland will battle UNC Greensboro. The winners will meet in the title game Dec. 30.
Other non-conference games include trips to VCU, James Madison, Binghamton and American.
Green’s biggest problem? The lack of home games. He’s having trouble finding teams interested in coming to Lynchburg. The only confirmed non-league home dates are with Virginia Tech and Longwood.
This is the piece that Chris Lang wrote up in the LU notebook in the newspaper about next season's non conference schedule for Women's Basketball.

A borderline top 25 team having problem getting home games? Sounds like LU needs to come up with some gaurantee $$ to make it worth their while. You want to create A LOT more interest, get some quality teams--and to get quality teams, spend some jack.

Maybe we should invite LC over for a double-header with the men...it'd be an easy W, thats for sure

LU doesn't have the sort of money in its operating budget for women's hoops to start throwing out money for guarantees. And they don't make enough money off the home games to make it worthwhile.

If I'm the coach of a borderline NCAA type team from a power conference, why would I want to play Liberty in Lynchburg? The risk is huge and the reward little. It's like this for a lot of top programs. That's why Gonzaga will play men's games against teams like Missouri and Oklahoma State in Seattle. They can cater to their Seattle fan base, and the power-conference teams don't have to play Gonzaga on its true home floor.

It's great to see some of those quality teams on the schedule. By time conference roles around (barring any injuries) these girls should be ready to bring home #11! Considering I will be living in Richmond it will be awesome to see them at VCU! I wish it was November already.

I wish it was too jcmanson but I guess MLB will keep me busy until the playoffs end in late October.

Now that I have calmed down after reading who we will be playing, I wish it was August so we could enjoy a Big South Championship in football, and then be ready for some basketball!

I think Atrain was making a joke that UVA won't come to play Liberty in Lynchburg anymore since they lost back in '99 or whenever that was...a crazy 3 pointer at the buzzer by Crystal Tharp sent the game into overtime!

Later that evening, the men beat William and Mary...a great day for LU sports...beating two in-state schools on the same night.

Yes...thats exactly what I meant. Though UVA does seem to be willing to pay money for us to go to CVille...not sure if we accepted or not.

I don't know about the offer I think it's just more getting dates right... There are several top 10 teams that want us to come to them, it's all about getting the dates straight...

Trust me, UVA offered more $$$ than the first time for us to come up there.

GMTM is definitely a great source for women's basketball. I know some stuff but he (GMTM) knows a little more than me for women's basketball.
