Except that I can very well be wrong, RD may have a clean mouth, I just dont think youre going to hear that from anybody else. Ive heard too many stories to believe yours. I dont expect the dude to be perfect, but for you to come out and say he NEVER uses foul language is ridiculous. None of us NEVER use foul language, but Im telling you there are enough people who will say otherwise to make that comment look dumb

Ritchie is the coach.

He did a great job.

His team was getting torn apart by horrible officials, and we were still in the game.

These guys were HORRIBLE!

AWFUL!

They had no idea how to handle KG, they didn't even call 3 seconds!

Lots of really questionable calls.

But this team has GUTS! There was no quit. To the bitter end we were fighting, and when Alex got us back into the game with his lay-up, he went NUTS, and everyone on the team could feel it.

I think we proved we are a legitimate team, and that we are one of the 3 best programs in the BSC, probably the top 2 (with Asheville).

No one else put up a good showing, unless High Point is really a great team, then maybe we aren't giving them enough credit and not enough to WU.

This team will get revenge in the Vines.

Book it.

It's a great day to be a Flame.

Oh, and Jeremy Anderson's mom? (I think it was his mom) is a great basketball fan.

I'm not even going to touch the coaching differences because quite frankly it's become laughable at this point.

As for the game:

TeeJay lived up to the hype tonight. I have said every time I mentioned him that I would give him credit when it was due and he impressed the crap out of me tonight. I don't care that he missed some shots. The thing that impressed me the most was that he was driving to the basket and going up and getting fouled. He's insanely fast too. He dribbled circles around Kenny George.

Oh yea, speaking of the eight foot ogre, the dude gets away with some cheap stuff. Sure, he's 12 feet tall and I'd take advantage of it too by throwing it up every possession, but some of the other stuff was cheap. Alex would get a foul for just banging with him, yet Kenny George was putting his knee right in the middle of Alex's back and pushing around anywhere he wanted to. Not to mention George set up a tent and grill in the lane every possession. I have no problem with his rebounds over people, or the in bounds play where they just throw it in for two points. It's the other stuff that p issed me off.

I notice someone mentioned in the game thread that we were "scared" of Kenny George and just shooting three's when he was in the game. That was actually the game plan. They knew they he couldn't guard out there, so they waited for the open shot and took it. Someone asked why Alex was taking a three and it's because Coach McKay yelled at him to take the shot right before he took it.

We started the game off terrible but ended up coming back, which was impressive. It really showed the character of the team.

KJ Garland was running his mouth the entire game. He show boated on every play that he possibly could and ran his mouth anytime that he could, even to the coaches.

Kyle Ohman did some showy stuff that I really didn't like, but Coach McKay got onto him pretty quickly. We had tied the game or took the lead or something and KO looked at UNCA's fans and started waving his arms telling them to get loud and all of that going into a timeout. When the team got to the huddle Coach McKay's first words were, "We do this with class!" That impressed me.

The gym was tiny (my high school is bigger) but it got loud. One of the funniest things of the night was during warm-ups the Asheville students started chanting, "Hans-brough trav-eled!" That was just straight up funny.

I saw a dude there with a Coastal shirt on. That was kinda weird.

That drive sucked.

Anything else you guys wanna know just ask. I've driven eight hours today and have forgotten stuff probably. One thing I know for sure is we can make a run at this thing.

I am so mad right now... and normally i never post the night of a loss, but I want to.

Richie was right post game when he said the refs were bad... I dont blame the refs ever but it was TERRIBLE... they were Bums...

KJ Garland is a cheap player, he is a bum. I have no problem with players that gets hype and stuff, but he has nothing to be excited or cocky about.. Its like me being cocky about being the best player on the Florida Gators Hockey team... I AM NOT AT UF NOR DO I PLAY HOCKEY! He shoved BJ and he deserved a little more than a stern talking to. Hes a piece of trash and thats all im going to say on that.

Smithson is nice... He lives up to the Hype and he is a great player.

TJ played like an allstar.. Driving to the basket, Finishing when he got beat up... They didnt call it but he got raped every play...

Anderson gained my respect tonight, gave us some big minutes and took a huge charge... I like him.

Richie Did great. He handled they retarded officials respectfully.

Kenny George gets away with everything, but SJ covered most of that... He goes over the back every play too and we needed to put Armon in and have him punch that FreakShow(sorry if youre offended, but he is) in the chest everytime i thought about getting the ball... Everytime they throw him the ball its a goaltend on him.

Gym is small, it sucks, but its loud.

We are better than them.

Drive was boring.

Its all lesbos and hippies there.

I guarantee we beat them at home... Yes I said it... Its a promise...

and if we had tyler baker we would have won by 50
:D

.... and the refs sucked.

That's what McKay was implying in the post game show, about how they feed Kenny George the ball above the cylinder.

The paper also mentioned that 200 fans were turned away because the gym was sold out. Thank God Super & company got inside before the sell out. I don't even want to think about what they would have done after driving 4 hours to be told, 'Sorry, sold out, have a nice drive back to Lynchburg."

I can never remember UNCA having to turn away fans. That is impressive given the overall attitude towards athletics at that place.

Andy said one of the things I forgot to.

Smithson is good. That kid has a legit shot at player of the year. I think Reggie or AZ will get it as a "career achievement" type thing, but Smithson is good.

We would've had tickets no matter what. We were on the pass list and they had to give us tickets.

Smithson is very good but he is not POY good. He certainly played that way yesterday though. I watched the whole game and we did a poor job of getting out on ball screens early and to his credit he stepped back and knocked down shots. His 3's were not even touching the net! He will have his moments but truthfully KJ Garland usually shares the scoring that Smithson did last night. Coach McKay should be upset IMO with the technical fouls they received particularly the one on Dale Layer. An assistant has the right to be out of the box during timeouts. They go to the scores table to check on timeouts and fouls during every timeout. The huddles take place somewhere near the foul line for most teams now so the players can hear the coach. The team managers put out the stools for the 5 players to sit on. Asheville is good. HPU is good esp at home. Remember they only lost 3 games last season in conference themselves, 2 to WU and one to Liberty before VMI upset them in the Tournament. I really hope Asheville is not the #1 seed because the tournament semi finals and finals will be there. I guess they would have to use the Civic Center for that. I am glad I have the Edge because I won't miss another game even though the picture is small. We should wear the red jerseys for the HPU game on Jan 26th. We could have a RED OUT with the fans and that game is our next MASN game as well. I don't like the white jersey's that much because the numbers and letters don't have red trim around them but the red jerseys are suwweet as Medic would say.

Been keeping up a bit with all your thoughts...Just wanted to give some perspective from the other side too (nothing to specific, just in general).

Been noticing a lot of talk about Garland. KJ is actually probably one of the nicest people on UNCA's team. Good person, and absolutely one of the hardest working guys (Smithson, Garland, and John Williams are the three guys that are always in the weight room and/or always shooting around in one of the gym's @ athletic facility). KJ does jaw a little bit and is a very emotional player, I can't argue with that. There were several times last year when he received hard fouls and reacted by getting up in an opponents face -- smithson can get emotional too. Part of that is natural reaction but seeing those guys play everyday (and yes I'm biased) both are great guys that play the game hard and play the right way.

As for Smithson player of the year. Not sure I'm knowledgeable enough about basketball to make a good argument either way. I think he might be the most athletic and talented player in the league. He 'won' the UNCA dunk contest last year -- which is quite remarkable for a guy that's not much taller then 6'. He's probably the fastest player in the league and his play against UNC-CH the last two years has been dazzling. He's also getting some interest from NBA-scouts. Is he the best and most polished player in the league? I don't know. He's arguably the most exciting, for sure the most athletic, and his athleticism makes him almost impossible to just 'shut-out'.

As for Kenny George -- from my perspective I'm just happy the kid is on the floor. Gone through a lot the last few years (injuries etc.) and he also has to deal with a lot off the floor because of his size. Its not easy being pointed and laughed at everywhere you go but he's a good guy and despite his shyness deals with it well. Its good to see him starting to develop as a player and have some success on the court.

LU team looks good... Going to be an interesting year in the Big South... I don't really know that you can pick a favorite at this point -- gonna be a tough road for whoever wins it.

We would all say that about our guys (Alex, KO, BJ).

The fact is, and me and SJ and TBGBGB were discussing this, it takes guys like that on your team to drive things emotionally.

They will do some stupid stuff on the floor. Other teams won't like them. But they are much needed.

I am sure he is a good kid. Pretty much everyone has a good side. But as far as we know, he is a punk who had an off game and took it out on our players.

The stuff I said about Garland I based simply on last night. He could be the nicest person in the world, but I don't know him so I can't say that. I'm glad that, according to you, he's a good kid.

As for Kenny George, I think Coach McKay said it best. He said that Kenny George is an easy kid to pull for because of everything he has to go through. It's obvious that the students at Asheville love him. I'd love to meet him just to talk to him. He's a very unique person and his experiences are something I couldn't even begin to imagine. I wish nothing but the best for the kid. Granted, I don't like how he got to camp out in the lane last night but hey, if the refs aren't calling it, he better do it.

You said you've read a lot, so hopefully you've read where I've said multiple times that the 40 minutes on the floor are a time when all bets are off and things are no holds barred (two cliche's in one sentence, I'm awesome). Before and after the games is completely different than in the game. Last night after the game, I made sure to catch the eye of some of the Asheville students and pointed at them and clapped telling them they did a good job. They were loud and were a good student section. I've got no reason to talk crap even if we would've won. Some of the Asheville students were trying to taunt us by waving by and when I did the good job clap it shocked them like they didn't know how to respond. I try to give credit when it's due. If any of your guys come up here for the game we'll talk crap during the game and invite em out to eat afterwards. That's just how we do things here.
